The Omicron variant

I have heard--variously--that the Omicron variant of Covid accounts for about 98 or 99 percent of all new cases. (The Delta variant is rather rare.)

I have also heard that Omicron results in almost no one being hospitalized--or killed--and that it is really no more serious than the common cold.

If both of these are true, why, then, the rabid desire to ensure plenty of self-test kits?

Good question. I'm curious about that also.

You heard wrong. The rates of hospitalization and death from Omicron are lower than from Delta, but because the numbers of cases are so high, the total number of people ending up in the hospital is actually going up.

Far less than heart disease and cancer daily....

COVID-19 was the 3rd leading cause of death in the U.S. in November 2021

It means some politicians and assorted con artists are profiting from them, is my opinion.

I see two reasons:
1. To keep spreading fear about a cold that has a higher survival rate than the flu.
2. To make a profit.

Neither of which is comparable to a cold, either. The OP is clueless about the risks from Omicron. It will kill tens of thousands of Americans over the next month or so.
