Florida now has more coronavirus cases than New York and California leads the nation
God bless these.

Florida has confirmed at least 414,511 total cases since the pandemic began, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, and is seeing record daily coronavirus deaths based on a seven-day moving average, along with other states like Texas and California. Florida recorded at least 12,444 new daily cases on Friday.

Florida ranks second on the list of U.S. states with the greatest number of cases. California is leading the country with more than 440,325 cases as of Friday. New York, once the epicenter of the outbreak, is now third with at least 411,200 confirmed infections. Texas, now a hotspot as well, has confirmed a total of 380,554 cases.

At least 5,777 people have died from the virus in Florida while New York has recorded 32,607 fatalities, the most of any state in the nation by far.

Though the outbreak in Florida has exploded over the past several weeks, the daily case count has started to trend downward recently as a seven-day moving average, according to a CNBC analysis of Johns Hopkins’ data. The state’s daily new case average was down more than 9% as of Friday.

However, Florida’s death and hospitalization rates have been steadily rising. Florida reported an average of 121 daily deaths as of Friday, about a 21% increase compared with a week ago. The number of people hospitalized due to the virus is up by 14% on average.

And none of the numbers and graphs and people claiming anything long term has been accurate....

The death rate is the only thing that matters and even those have been raped with bogus increased numbers....

I don't believe ANY numbers anymore.....

Both Florida and California have higher populations than New York so it's really not surprising that they would have more cases.
Deaths per capita for the 4 highest population states in the US.
NY, 1680 deaths per million. 4th highest population state.
FL, 273 deaths per million. 3rd highest population state.
TX, 175 deaths per million. 2nd highest population state.
CA, 213 deaths per million. 1st highest population state.

Looks like NY is a horrible place to be during a pandemic.

Also I'd like to know what the ages are of those who have died.
What percentage of the deaths are associated with nursing homes or senior housing.
And the overall ratio of elderly in Florida. Are there as Many retires there as is often joked about?

In general is the state more vulnerable simply by virtue of it's demographics?

My thoughts also... First guess, FL, then NY. For once, I would be correct.

I haven't seen an actual journalist dig up that number on a national or even state level. I live in a fairly large city and we had a local journalist dig up some of those numbers just for our city. 85% of all covid related deaths were people aged 65 or above. Of that group 65% had some other health issue or comorbidity such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney failure, Alzheimer's, obesity, etc. Of the remaining 15%, 75% had some sort of health issue or comorbidity.

This information was reported by a radio journalist so I cannot provide a link to the source. This was reported about one week ago. My city is large enough to represent an average cross section of our national population, so I'm guessing those percentages probably play out nationally.
