Report has stunning revelations for contents of hot dogs - CBS News

Quote:
Clear Foods, which "uses genomic technology to analyze the world's foods at a molecular level, ingredient by ingredient," released a report recently that it said was designed to look at the accuracy of the content labels of several major hot dog brands.
Quote:
Quote:
The company analyzed 345 hot dog and sausage products from 75 brands and 10 retailers, and said they found "human DNA in 2% of the samples, and in 2/3rds of the vegetarian samples."
Quote:
Additionally, 10 percent of all vegetarian products appeared to contain meat.
Quote:
Despite some of the shocking findings, Clear Foods reports "there are a number of hot dog manufacturers, large and small, that are producing high-quality hot dogs with integrity."
Butterball, McCormick, Eckrich and Hebrew National were among the major brands that received top scores from Clear Foods. ..

I'm speechless

The only hot dog I touch is all beef Oscar Mayer, or Lightlife vegetarian dogs.
I read too many things about what goes in to them over the years- the typical porky American dog.

I love hotdogs, and I have seen them made. The horror stories are just that stories, mostly told by anti meat nuts.

Bacon and other processed meats can cause cancer, experts say

Bacon and other processed meats can cause cancer, experts say | Reuters
Quote:
Eating processed meats like hot dogs, sausages or bacon can lead to bowel cancer in humans and red meat is a likely cause of the disease, World Health Organization (WHO) experts said.

here are some questions answered:
Quote:

Do I Have to Stop Eating Processed Meat?

a 50 gram portion of processed meat eaten every day raises the risk of colon cancer by 18 percent that's two to three slices of bacon.

WHO now classifies both processed meat and cigarettes in the highest category of carcinogen

"We hope that media coverage of this new report is careful to consider the appropriate real-world context: In some studies, participants who eat diets high in processed meat experience a risk for colorectal cancer that is nearly double that of non-meat-eaters. But according to the CDC, smoking cigarettes multiplies a person's risk for cancer by as much as 20 times."

Which meats are named in the report?

The group includes processed meat that has been salted, cured, fermented or smoked to preserve it or to add flavor. It gives specific examples hot dogs, ham, sausages, corned beef, canned meat and some sauces.

It defines red meat as any muscle that comes from a mammal, including beef, veal, pork, lamb, mutton, horse, and goat.
