I should probably go have one, now that I've got medical insurance.
I'm lazy; I tend to address health problems as they arise.
But it's probably not a bad idea to at least get the skin on my back checked. It's not like I can see it.

You should have your doctor check and see what happened to your sense of humor, I think it's dead.

"My dad had all kinds of melanomas cut off him, luckily I inherited my mom's complexion"
doesn't sound like much of a joke to me. Sorry.
Also, I'm not sure this thread is the appropriate place for jokes, even exceedingly lame ones.

I see what happened, you completely missed it.

"You white people need to stay out of the sun" (the joke part being, I'm white)

Pregnancy making you cranky?

Are you capable of staying on topic? Any topic? Ever?

I posted on topic - any reason you are derailing the thread? Try shutting up once in a while and everything will be just fine honey.

At any rate, I have been diagnosed with Melanoma. We're waiting on tests results to see how far it has spread. The doctors cut a huge chunk out of my neck leaving me with a squiggly line and 15 bright blue stitches.

The thing is, I didn't feel sick. I wasn't losing weight (though that would have been nice). The spot didn't itch, or raise, or bleed... I would not have known until it was dangerously late. It was spotted by a nurse six weeks ago.
Really sorry to hear that, but I'm glad they caught it early and got it removed.

So... A few questions for my fellow PW'ers

1) Have you ever been out in the sun?
2) Without sunscreen?
3) Is there a segment of skin on your body that you cannot see?
4) Do you have a mole or freckle that has changed color or shape?

]
I'm a sun goddess. I've spent most of my childhood and adult life in the sun. Sunscreen? Nope. I'm allergic to it. I have used it on occasion, but usually regret it as it causes me to break out afterwards. The sun cures my skin conditions anyway. If I wear sunscreen, it makes my skin conditions worse. Now that my daily life isn't in the sun from morning to dark anymore, I've taken to laying out in the sun to get the vitamins I need and to help my skin.

My great-grandfather had some skin cancer on his face. Tiny area. They cut it out and he was fine. No one else in my family has, as far as I know.

I have so many moles and freckles, it would be impossible for me to know if any one of them have changed. (and I get more freckles if I get out in the sun LOL) But, some of them I could know, and keep a watch on. Obviously these are the ones that are in my immediate line of vision.

Due to my skin conditions, though, I have a dermatologist and am there a couple times year (or more).

Dabateman, we have already talked in private about this, but my thoughts are with you. I wish you the absolute best and a complete recovery.

You are an incredibly strong individual and I know you will overcome this and go on to a long and distinguished career in law.

Besides, when I become a multi-billionaire and buy the Minnesota Twins, I will need a good lawyer.

Which is why I'm talking about it. I want everyone to be aware that it is out there and not let themselves go undiagnosed.
I am glad to hear that - thank goodness for a top notch nurse that spotted it. Are you being treated at a top notch facility?

I don't know anyone with melanoma and...I'm not good at using sunscreen myself...but I'm glad it is caught early for you
