Illinois Seeks Social Media Accounts of Gun Owners

Some politicians in Illinois want to force gun owners to provide their social media account info so the state police can view their accounts and look for signs of mental illness. I guess these fascists haven't read the Constitution, which places no conditions on the ability to own or use a gun. :rolls

State police would inspect social accounts for signs of "mental health issues." Seldom content to let its coastal counterparts take all the glory for bad ideas, Illinois is following New York's lead and proposing that all prospective gun buyers give the government access to their social media accounts.

Under a new proposal being considered by the Illinois legislature, people who want a license to own firearms or ammunition would have to submit a list of all their public-facing online accounts to the state police.

State Rep. Daniel Didech (D–Buffalo Grove) suggests that the law is necessary because too many people with "mental health issues" are buying guns. That's a debatable claim, but at least it's within the realm of realism. Where Didech goes off the rails is supposing the state authorities could identify dangerous people simply by looking at their social media presence, and that this determination would be sufficient to deny them their First and Second Amendment rights.

They would be sorely disappointed in my social media accounts as I don't participate in social media.

But this proposal goes too far. It opens the door to allow partisans to deny the ability to exercise your rights simply if they disagree with your politics. I hope the people of Illinois reject this proposal. My suspicion is that most people outside of Chicago would reject this. But unfortunately there are so many brain dead morons in that city to overwhelm the rest of the state.

Don't like abortion?...You must be mental...

Don't want government healthcare?...You must be mental...

I think **** like this should be punishable with prison time and permanent loss of elected and appointed office for elected officials who do this ****. Because its apparent they know this won't stand up in the courts but appear to be an attempt to discourage people from exercising their 2nd amendment rights.

I agree. Any elected official who violates his or her oath of office to uphold the Constitution should be immediately removed from office.

No Police officers are not trained to look for signs of diabetus much less mental illnes.
The best thing is for ALL not just gun owners' doctors be able to flag them for possible mental illness and for any treated illness to be flagged all to go into an app that is accessible -only for the flags- by a gun seller. Private or commercial gun seller. They would have to sign ff that it is flag free before selling.
If I knew how to design the software I'd be a millionaire. :yes

flag any patient for mental illness follow up it goes into a data base,
no one can know what the person has but they know they cannot sell him a gun.

Would it make a weenie more comfortable if the lunatic killed him with a machete instead? Or how about a scalpel? How about a pencil jammed into his ear, when he least expects it?

So now you support the though police also? What about someone who has recently undergone emotional upheaval, loss of a loved one, a relative to assault, a relative raped, lost their job, missed a promotion, etc, etc?

To say nothing of Constitutional violations.... ye gods, woman, think about what you are saying!
