Student gunman dies after Maryland school shooting; two other students injured

Wonder why the resource officer had a gun in a GUN FREE ZONE?

Ah well good thing he did.

From the article:

Quote:
...staff quickly notified an armed school resource officer.
If the staff had been armed themselves, could the issue have been resolved even more quickly. Then again, only two students injured for a school shooting is pretty good, unless of course you are one of those students.

Obviously, the details of the gunman aren't known, but I suspect red flags were there...

No matter what systematic "prevention" measures, and gun controls, we place on law abiding citizens, the bad guys will find a work around.

Since the armed "resource" officer did his duty instead of standing outside waiting for the shooting to stop, this proves such defensive/preventative measures do work to save lives.

Likely this episode will not see as much emotionalism in any coverage the media might present. Assuming they even do. After all, this event makes the case for armed response on site.

Maybe some "students" and their administrators could assemble a walkout to make the case for actual, active, protection of their safety.

It is a rather in-humane way to stop an in-humane act, by an in-humane person yes.

Crude but effective with no recidivism.

Pure hero. Get this man a raise.

Polar opposite of that loser cop Scot Peterson who coward outside while kids were slaughtered like sheep at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Wonder if David Hogg, the high school loser who takes advantage of tragedies to make money and obtain fame, will mention how an armed school employee saved a sh*t-ton of lives. I'm guessin' not. Can't really make money off that. He's gotta wait for the next school slaughter before he can sell more of those cheap wristbands.

Anyways, uber-praise to the cop. Dude stepped up and took the bad guy down. You da man.

Maryland school resource officer has stared a gun in the face to save lives before

Quote:
The school resource officer who engaged with an active shooter at a Maryland high school on Tuesday has been recognized for his "exemplary judgment" before.

Blaine Gaskill, a St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office deputy with SWAT training who had been positioned at Great Mills High School since the beginning of the school year, immediately responded after being alerted of the shooting, officials said.

"[Gaskill] pursued the shooter, engaged the shooter, fired a round at the shooter," Sheriff Tim Cameron said Tuesday, adding the deputy did everything he was supposed to do during an active shooter situation.

Gaskill contained the situation within one minute of the initial shot being fired, officials said. It's unclear if his round hit the shooter.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said Gaskill is a "capable ... tough guy" who "took the right kind of action."

"I think while it's still tragic, [Gaskill] may have saved other people's lives," Hogan said.

Gaskill's interaction on Monday with the deceased gunman, 17-year-old Austin Wyatt Rollins, wasn't the first time he came face-to-face with a firearm.

In July 2016, Gaskill was responding to a complaint at a Great Mills home when a man — identified as Pekka Robert Heinonen, 59 — pointed a gun at him, according to Maryland newspaper The Enterprise.

Heinonen was "standing on the porch, pointing a gun at me," Gaskill wrote in a probable cause statement. "I ordered the defendant to drop the gun, at which point ... his wife walked between us. The defendant refused to comply with my demands, ... [until his wife] convinced him to drop the gun."

Gaskill, Sheriff Cameron said at the time, "used exemplary judgment" in the situation, in which "realistic, relevant and constant training obviously paid off."

The deputy has been with the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office for six years, after having previously served four years as a correctional officer.

Its a shame this can't happen with all mass murderers that way we don't have to spend time and money on their trials.

Roughly 78% of mass murders have ended with the perpetrator's death. Usually by their own hand.

I've long maintained if you plan on doing the whole murder suicide thing, you should start with the suicide.

Aaaaand he hasn't.

Guess it doesn't fit the narrative.

Always! You will be remembered longer, and the town might even name a street after you, depending on the number of student targets on your suicide note.
