In this case because the teacher in question was also a police officer, they had him performing the duty.

But lets be clear, even without the arming teachers initiative; even if guns were completely banned, as a police officer, this individual would be able to bring a gun into the school.

Guns going off during these "gun safety" demonstrations happens surprisingly often. They always get a bit of press, but not the national attention this incident is getting. The reason this is get so much attention is because of the initiative to arm teachers.

The difference between this situation and having armed teachers is simple. A teacher who is armed in school, should NEVER have their gun out of their holster in the school unless using it in a situation where they are protecting themselves or others from serious physical harm or death.

Removing the gun to load/unload it, show to students, or mess around with it while on school grounds should be a fire-able offense.

If the left wants to talk about discontinuing "gun safety" demonstrations because they are ironically "too dangerous", that's a discussion I'm sure we can have.

I read an article recently about a teacher who was allowed to conceal carry a gun to class and accidently left it in the bathroom.

The thing is, accidents happen. More guns more accidents.

I'm not entirely against gun safety classes. I understand the need for them in some places in this country. BUT damn there has gotta be a better way to do them than inside a classroom. Maybe make a field trip to a shooting range or the nearest army base. Have a couple drill sergeants teach gun safety. Those guys would be on point.

And she should be fired.

Rules:

If a teacher is carrying at school.

1. You must have your gun on your person at all times.
2. Your gun must be holstered at all times unless being used to defend yourself or other's.

Two simple rules. If you break them, you are fired. If you can't keep those rules, you shouldn't carry at school. That simple.
