Actually what is needed is a repeal of the 17th Amendment that took the appointment of US Senators from the State Legislatures and put it to a popular vote.

When the Constitution was written and the government established, the Senate was supposed to be the States voices in the Federal Government with the House being the peoples voice. In order to accomplish this, the framers gave the authority to each state legislature to appoint 2 Senators to represent the States within Congress. If the appointed Senators did not act in the States best interest, they could be recalled by the legislature and a new Senator appointed.

What we have now is a popularity contest with Senators pandering to the masses for votes instead of looking out for the interest of their states. If we were to repeal the 17th Amendment, it would go a long way in balancing the Federal Government and help to bring things like the deficit under control.

I can speak for me. Anybody who gave any thought or knew of trigger rapid pull devices could see this result as a given.

The problem is the definition of machine gun, which is any weapon firing more than 1 round with a single pull of the trigger. Which is not the problem. All that needs to be done is redefine machine gun or full auto if you prefer. Something like capable of firing more than 50 rounds/minute.

The left will get the bump stock ban and along with it a couple or 6 undesirable riders. A return of the 1986 assault ban, so called high capacity magazines, whatever. Unless pro seconds find a way to put a stop to it.

2 things pro second people must always keep in mind:

Never let a crisis go to waste. Anti seconds will not get any gains when all's quiet on the western front.

The goal is never as simple as banning an individual parts. The goal is banning firearms. Incrementalism works toward that goal.

I would like to think current leadership would not bring anything too radical to the floor for a vote.

But I have little faith.
