But the thread subject is Japan knife attack, is it not?
So, apples and bananas.
I'm not the one who created this comparison between firearms and knives.
I'm not the one who took an article about a Japan knife attack and put it in the Gun Control/2nd Amendment section.
Perhaps you should talk to the OP and other pro-NRA people who have been making that comparison...

According to crime statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), knives are consistently used to kill people far more often than rifles are used. And the numbers aren’t even close: five times as many murders were committed with knives than were committed with rifles last year.
The FBI statistics show that knives have been used as a murder weapon far more often than rifles — even those evil “assault weapons” we hear so much about — for quite a while. In 2013, knives or other cutting instruments were used to kill 1,490 victims. In contrast, rifles were the cause of death of 285 murder victims. Shotguns were used in 308 murders. In 2009, the ratio was very similar: knives were used in five times as many murders as rifles....
Knives Killed Five Times As Many People As Rifles Last Year

TOTAL Firearms: 8,454
Knives or Cutting Instruments: 1,490

If we're going to break down the firearm murders by type (rifle, shotgun, etc), then we have to do the same for the knives.
How many murders by butcher knives?
How many were chef knives?
How many were paring knives?
How many were fishing knives?
How many were daggers?

Obviously, it's pointless to break them down by knife types just like it's pointless to break them down by gun types.

To go along with the above.
We have to think of the actual number of Guns available in 1970 and the numbers available now. Do you think there arer MORE or less? obviously many more. It's additive no matter how you count.

Also the rise in U.S. population.
Just thinking of the rise in population ALONE we can clearly see that things are far LESS dangerous NOW than then as far as numbers of deaths per thousand.
There where apx 200 million in the U.S. in 1970
and now there are over 300 million.
But we see that the REAL number of people killed by guns is LESS than it was in 1970!
SO why exactly is there a such a push from some quarters for MORE and MORE guns control measures?

Also The link below has some very interesting stats on the Gun ownership. past present and especially demographics of WHO really owns guns ... and by default who'd they'd be taken from (or limited to access) ny more gun control laws.

The section is titled Gun Control/2nd Amendment. The second amendment deals with arms, and as far as I can remember, "arms" has always applied to weapons you can carry, such as knives, swords, clubs, tomahawks, et cetera.

Then why do gun control advocates talk about banning "Assault" rifles Found?
Or banning certain types of hand guns?
Or various types of bullets? Or Limiting Ammo purchases?

Sorry Found you sarcasms has no basis in the reality of debates going on in current law or legislation proffered.

the distinctions have been made by the left as a way to whittle away at gun ownership.
Your comments are a lame attempt to try and dodge BOTH the points made here FI66.
1. Knives kill as well as guns.. but there isn't the same legislative hysteria.
2. certain types of guns that are (or potentially are) regulated do LESS harm than knifes.

your sarcasm does nothing to lessen the truth of those point

But you're the one trying to steer the convo from a discussion of a mass knife attack in Japan to a discussion of gun attacks in the US. Apples and Bananas.

Manitou is correct. Arms in the context of the 2nd refers to hand held weapons (in its current usage). That includes but is not limited to guns and knives.

Who is the one who put a story about a knife attack in the "Gun Control/2nd Amendment" section?

It's not the "gun control" crowd which bring up knife attacks.
While I am responding to somebody else's parallel, you're trying to blame me for something the pro-gun side brings up and then you aren't even questioning them on it...

The person who understands that arms is not limited to guns only.

Where do you think an story about an arms attack should be? Aren't you a mod? If so, then move it to the song section. The points will still be valid.

I think the proper response to a post that does not make any sense to a person is "Apples and oranges", and then let it ride. That, or something more profound, like "Hillary is ugly!"

Because of their capability to be used for mass killing devices and/or capability to harm cops with body armor piercing ammo.

Your opinion is noted but not justifiable.
You try to bring up knives in the context of limiting assault rifles. You demonstrate ignorance as to why assault weapons are banned / sought to be banned.

And then you try to pretend to tell me what's relevant?

ROFLMAO!

mr. wonder is the one who is going to be doing the "dodging" as he completely ignores the point made to blindly repeat his talking points.

Because knives don't have the same type of mass murder capabilities.
There was a comparison a little while back (Chenpeng Village Primary School stabbing) where a crazed knife person attacked 23 children.
ALL SURVIVED.

If somebody had given him an assault weapon, the story would be very different.

Kindly document this claim.
Also, document the distance that person has to be standing from their victims with that
a) knife
b) assault weapon
in order to do that "less harm".

Instead of blindly attacking me, THINK about it...
YOU are the one whining that knives and guns are "apples and bananas".
NOT ME.

I understand the comparison / analogy mr. wonder was making and I'm discussing what he started.

I am asking you why you are JUST COMPLAINING AT ME since somebody else started this comparison.
Of course, you still haven't answered that...

The reality of this is that if I were to shut up about this, you wouldn't have any complaint for the pro-NRA side making these arguments.
But you want those who support some level of gun control to simply not respond. Cause supposedly they are the ones who are "apples and bananas" when they respond to an argument somebody else made.
