I agree that there was limited or no tracking. Agents watched the guns being taken to safe houses and that was it. Correct, no interdiction, or sting, or legitimate law enforcement strategy was evident. The cooperating FFLs had to have been doing well as the illegal purchases exceeded over 1 million. The straw buyers and middle men also made profit but I don't think this was a DOJ money making scheme. There was a WaPo reporter named Sari Horwitz who was writing articles on SW gun issues at the time all this was going on. Her articles appeared shortly before and at the time of Agent Terry's death. She cited FFL's, including Carter Country in Tex. as having the dubious distinction of supplying a lot of guns to the Cartels. Carter Country lawyered up and states that the ATF was asking for assistance with "stall and call" and giving the OK for transactions to go through. This set up was similar in nature to the F&F arrangements. The impression is that greedy FFL's will do anything for a profit. Lone Wolf unjustly earned a similar reputation.

I am inclined to agree with the two of you. Our govt., allowed {and a few might of got payment} for giving up military type arms and ammo to these rat bastards.
Man the American Govt., has done plety of off color stuff sense WWii and much was done to make someone in a high place rich and others below him build a large egg for retirement.
