Again? You did not ask me in the first place. You said my post was drama. I don't care one way or the other what people find so serious about a kid pointing a gun finger at anybody. Clue me in, heh heh.

Boy, 6, suspended from Silver Spring school for pointing finger like a gun

By Donna St. George, Published: January 2, 2013

The parents of a 6-year-old Silver Spring boy are fighting the first-grader’s suspension from a Montgomery County public school for pointing his finger like a gun and saying “pow,” an incident school officials characterized in a disciplinary letter as a threat “to shoot a student.”

The first-grader was suspended for one day, Dec. 21. The family’s attorney filed an appeal Wednesday, asking that the incident be expunged from the boy’s school record amid concerns of long-term fallout.

Toy gun causes disturbance on Palmer school bus
A plastic LEGO-sized gun caused a disturbance on a Old Mill Pond Elementary School bus Friday morning.
Mieke Crane is the mother of the 6-year-old kindergarten student who brought the gun on the bus.
“I think they over-reacted totally. I totally do,” said Crane.
Another student on the bus saw the toy and yelled to the driver.
“She said he caused quite a disturbance on the bus and that the children were traumatized,” said Crane.
The school sent home a letter to parents of students who take the bus explaining what happened. It stressed no gun was on the bus and there was never any danger.
The letter also has photo of the toy showing it’s actual size, which is slightly larger than a quarter.....

The young Palmer boy who brought an inch-long plastic gun onto a school bus last week was the third Massachusetts kindergartener in the past four months to run afoul of a school district's zero-tolerance gun policy.
Palmer school officials say they will discuss the issue at an upcoming School Committee meeting following a public uproar over the May 24 episode, which happened on a bus bound for Old Mill Pond Elementary School.
The mother of the boy, Mieke Crane, told a local TV news station that her son had to write an apology to the bus driver and was expected to serve a one-day detention on Tuesday....

Second-grade Loveland student reportedly suspended for imaginary weapon - The Denver Post
LOVELAND -- A 7-year-old Mary Blair Elementary School student says he's confused about getting in trouble for trying to save the world from evil, though Thompson School District officials contend that the boy broke one of the school's “absolutes.”
Parent Mandie Watkins said Mary Blair principal Valerie Lara-Black called her Friday afternoon to inform her that her second-grade son, Alex, had been suspended for throwing an imaginary grenade during recess on the playground.
Alex did not have anything in his hand at the time and made no threats toward other people, Watkins reportedly was told.
Watkins said Alex's story matched up with the principal's account: He threw the pretend grenade at an imaginary box that had something evil inside.

Which, as it happens, is a too-frequent occurrence all over the country, regardless of the color of your skin.

In Maryland, there was the seven-year-old Maryland boy who bit a Pop-Tart into the shape of a gun (suspended),

the five-year-old with a bright red cap gun (suspended),

the three six-year-old boys suspended for making “finger guns” during a game of cops and robbers (suspended),

and the eleven-year-old who said the word “gun” on a school bus (suspended).

There was an eight-year-old finger-gun wielder in Florida (suspended), and a ten-year-old sharpshooter in Ohio (suspended).

There was the 12-year-old keychain-gunslinger in Rhode Island (suspended).

There were the two Virginia seventh-graders who were playing with airsoft guns at one of the student’s homes (suspended).

There was the five-year-old Pennsylvania girl who took aim at classmates with a Hello Kitty “bubble gun.” Suspended (for making – and I quote – “terroristic threats”).

There was the 16-year-old South Carolina student who wrote, in response to a prompt, “I killed my neighbor’s pet dinosaur. I bought the gun to take care of the business.” Suspended.

And there was the 14-year-old West Virginia student who wore a NRA t-shirt to school. Suspended and arrested.

None of these cases involved accusations of “Islamophobia,” and none were in Texas. Stupidity is equal-opportunity....

Boy, 11, arrested in Granite City for playing with toy gun

The Granite City Police Department said it was justified in arresting an 11-year-old boy for playing with a toy gun even though a witness and the boy's family tell a different version of what happened.
Chris Fulton, 11, said he pulled an air soft pistol out of his pocket while crossing the street near a laundromat at the intersection of Nameoki Road and East 23rd Street. Fulton said the he was playing with others and the gun was not loaded with any plastic balls.
“I was fake shooting with my brother and others,” Fulton said.
Granite City police said they received a call from a driver who said two boys were crossing the street slowly. Police said the driver asked the boys to hurry up before Fulton pointed the toy gun at him.
“The juvenile in the green shirt pointed what appeared to be a real gun as he walked towards the sidewalk,” said Granite City Police Chief Richard Miller.
Fulton denies he pointed the toy gun at anyone.
Police said they saw the toy gun in Fulton's front pocket when they arrived. Miller told News 4 officers on the scene drew their weapons, but did not know Fulton's age and did not know the gun was a toy.
“As they pulled on the lot they did not know his age, they did not know it was toy,” Miller said.
Miller also said police did not read Fulton his rights and were under no obligation to do so because they did not question him.
Fulton's family said the accusations by police are false. Fulton's mother said she is upset with how police handled the situation. She wants all charges dropped.

NJ fifth-grader suspended for bringing a foam 'bullet' to school, says mom
New Jersey fifth-grader Aarin Moody got a lesson in his school's zero tolerance policy after being suspended all of last week for bringing a foam Nerf gun bullet to school, according to his mom.
The Atlantic City boy was reaching for a note from his mom when the spongy projectile fell out of his pocket, alarming a faculty member at the Uptown Complex School on May 8, said his mother, Michelle Moody.
“I pulled out my late slip and that’s when the item fell out of my pocket and a teacher had seen it,” the boy said.
Officials at Uptown Complex categorized that foam dart as a “self-constructed weapon” because it had a toothpick stuck in it, the distraught mother said..

Officials at the Atlantic City School District, who did not return requests for comment, originally told Moody that her son would be expelled, but eventually agreed to a five-day, in-school suspension and a notation on his permanent record stating that he brought a makeshift weapon to school.

Do all schools require that they employ absolute morons to run them? Geez Louise this is getting friggin ridicules. Kids today can't even be kids anymore.
There are about 100,000 schools in the U.S.
We occasionally hear stories like this.
Even if we claim we have 100 stories like this, that amounts to 0.1% of all schools.

Another difference being that with the communications / internet age, we hear about such cases a lot more readily than in the past. The news travels.

There is a tendency to assume that hearing more about the cases means the problem is growing, when it may simply be that our communication is getting better. (I don't know which situation we are having. )

Another problem is that many of these reports go off the parents repeating a story, often with no independent verification from the school itself. (and/or the school refuses to talk to the press about the situation)
