You are correct in a lot of areas. All kinds of "gunk" is bad. Less "gunk" is good. CO2, however, IS NOT "GUNK"!

I guess I should continue to smoke then. My doctor will be so relieved.

mlurp posted some good sites. Allow me to quote from one you may be more familiar with:

NASA - Global Warming

Quote:
Human activities contribute to global warming by enhancing Earth's natural greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect warms Earth's surface through a complex process involving sunlight, gases, and particles in the atmosphere. Gases that trap heat in the atmosphere are known as greenhouse gases.
Quote:
The main human activities that contribute to global warming are the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) and the clearing of land. Most of the burning occurs in automobiles, in factories, and in electric power plants that provide energy for houses and office buildings. The burning of fossil fuels creates carbon dioxide, whose chemical formula is CO2. CO2 is a greenhouse gas that slows the escape of heat into space. Trees and other plants remove CO2 from the air during photosynthesis, the process they use to produce food. The clearing of land contributes to the buildup of CO2 by reducing the rate at which the gas is removed from the atmosphere or by the decomposition of dead vegetation.

Consumption is indeed important in a free economy: particularly the freedom of consumers to buy their goods in unhampered markets. However, key to long-term economic growth is investment (savings), which is the opposite of consumption. Public policies that promote consumption — such as low interest rates — do so at the expense of savings. Less savings means less investments; an economy that does not save or invest will consume all of its resources and eventually end up bankrupt.-David Saied

Your right we are wasting all of our money on the environment, never mind the $1.3 trillion war in Iraq. Bill Clinton put into effect great environmental policies and our economy was great and he lowered our national debt. George Bush completely counteracted those policies, is putting trillions of dollars into a meaningless war, giving huge tax cuts for the rich and oil companies and now look at our economy, but you're right it's because of environmental protection policies that our economy is screwed. And FYI we aren't complying with Kyoto. Don't worry about the extinction of animal species due to environmental degradation, don't worry about the overall demise of our fragile planet just worry about your big oil producing companies. Humans aren't the only species on this planet we just act like it. Mikeyy is completely right environmental policies and research into renewable energy creates jobs and will boost the economy.

Thank you saltwn, I also prefer the one with all the pictures to express the idea something is happening and faster than anyone thought. The funny thing is today new evidence was released on the Antarctic ice shelve that holds back the glacier that would cause oceans to rise. I sure hope others check this out.Only 5 more quick reads with pictures/video. The last site is where each other comes from as it has the links in the story. Click the pictures to enlarge them. And I tought the Blue Men would entain each of the membership.. What with twice the numbe saying they believe in it being man made.

Global warming cleared on ice shelf collapse rap

Quote:
The high-profile collapse of some Antarctica's ice shelves is likely the result of natural current fluctuations, not global warming, says a leading British expert on polar climates.

This surprising finding is supported by analysis of data from the European Space Agency's ERS-1 satellite, according to Duncan Wingham, Professor of Climate Physics at University College London. The data, measuring changes in ice thickness across the Antarctic ice sheet using the polar orbiting satellite, show areas of growth from snowfall are as common as areas of decline.

This is a contrasting picture to one based solely on the northern Antarctic Peninsula - a shark's fin of land jutting out from the body of the continent, and reaching to just 750 miles from Chile - where there has been a drastic increase in temperature, thinning of ice sheets and collapse of ice shelves. The Larsen A ice shelf, 1600 square kilometres in size, fell off in 1995. The Wilkins ice shelf, 1100 square kilometres, fell off in 1998 and the Larsen B, 13,500 square kilometres, dropped off in 2002. Meanwhile, the northern Antarctic Peninsula's temperatures have soared by six celsius in the last 50 years.

"A lot of attention and research has focused on this relatively accessible area of the Antarctic Peninsula, but satellites are giving us a picture of the continent as a whole," Wingham told the Register. This broader picture shows evidence of growth and decay from place to place, a picture more in line with natural variations in snowfall and ocean circulation. The Antarctic is to some extent insulated from global warming because to its north are zonal flows in the atmosphere and ocean, unimpeded by other landmasses. This insulates the continent from warmer events further north and leads one to suppose it is better protected from global warming.

"Taken as a whole, Antarctica is so cold that our present efforts to raise its temperature might be regarded as fairly puny. Change is undoubtedly occurring: in the collapse of the northerly Peninsula ice shelves, and elsewhere in the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, where the circumpolar current appears to reached the ice edge and is eating away drastically at the ice shelves. One cannot be certain, because packets of heat in the atmosphere do not come conveniently labelled 'the contribution of anthropogenic warming'.

"But the warming of the Peninsula has been going on for a considerable time, and the pattern of regional change is variable, and neither of these is favorable to the notion we are seeing the results of global warming".

Hey they say a picture is worth a thousand words, right. I don't care how it is caused. And in the many othe rposts I have many links in I present both sides o fthe blame game. But reality is that it is happening. But didn't you car efor the Blue Man video? I like it too.
BUT... You are entitled to your own opinion.

I shall try to refute you some more at a later time. Only because I have shown all I can find over time on the subject. And also because if one shows to much many get turned off of the situarion in the long run. Have at it... lol

And thanks for at least looking at the pictures (and not seeing the reality of the situation.) Have A Nice Day. Stay dry.

Down, but not Out!
In mid-February we experienced a terrorist-like Denial of Service Attack on our website that rendered it inaccessible to patrons. Unfortunately, the company that managed our website was unable to stop the attack, and we had to make the decision to host our website elsewhere. Moving our website to another server is not a simple task and must take place in stages. For now, only the current weekly issue of CO2 Science will be accessible, followed by a gradual return to full website access and functionality in the coming days and weeks.

For those of you awaiting the release of our DVD Carbon Dioxide and the Climate Crisis, which was advertised on our website shortly before the attack began, that wait will continue for an undetermined amount of time. We apologize for the inconveniences caused by the website attack and our subsequent server move. We hope you will continue to support our efforts and visit us often.

Update
We now anticipate that most of our website will be back online by the first week of April, and perhaps earlier. Please check back again soon.

Greenhouse Gas Reporting
Since 2001, our organization has provided companies with professional assistance in filing greenhouse gas (GHG) reports with the U.S. Voluntary Reporting of Greenhouse Gases Program (Section 1605(b) of the Energy Policy Act of 1992). We hope that others of you will also turn to our Center for your GHG reporting needs. Together, we can help you prepare an accurate, complete, consistent, relevant and transparent accounting of your emission and sequestration activities.
