Default National Security/Terrorism Forum

I'm making the suggestion that we ought to have a National Security/Terrorism Forum.

Several reasons come to mind.

One, such concerns ought to be above most partisan politics.

Two, articles on such topics tend to get put in the law enforcement, military or international forums as though they pertained to normal crimes, traditional military confrontations, or diplomacy.

Three, how nations, parties and laws deal with these issues tend to cross all sorts of boundaries from the religious, to the social, to the legal, to the military. In short, they comprise a separate if overlapping set of topics.

What do you all think?

I support it. Terrorism is a unique enough topic.

Don't we have one already in the OWS forum?

I think it's a good idea.

I would advise against it. Any stories concerning those topics can be placed in an appropriate existing section.

Ah! But I've found that there often isn't an appropriate section, not with any great accuracy.

Here's a fictitious example example. Siddhartha Monticcini seeks to establish a Communistic Buddhist Theocracy in New Jersey. He is motivated by the writings and the Buddha, Marx and Lincoln. He has set off several bombs, oddly all of them in unoccupied bicycle shops. The materials for his bomb making were acquired through illegal criminal means on the international black market for Mentos and Diet Coke.

Over the next few months many followers of Monticcini will conduct similar attacks, all of them targeting sporting goods outlets.

Should these stories be filed under Law and Order, Religion and Philosophy, Sports, Local News, or History? And as further related events occur, will they have any hope of being grouped together?

My point is, the national Security and Terrorism issues by their complex natures transcend too many other categories to allow them to be sorted into them with much logical consistency. At the same time, they are often closely related to each other. So, it seems to me that they should properly be occupy a unique category of their own.

In a similar vein, cooking, which transcends chemistry, agriculture, animal husbandry, biology, psychology, engineering and visual arts is thought of a singular topic in routine discussion.

I'm for it and have for years been posting items in realation to our Wars and those who seem to be supporters and the countries that support our enemies. And that is in the History/Military Topic area.

In the Internation Topic Area I have the others. So how the ____ blind are you guys?

I guess most members just haven't noticed...

And with 3 idiots even considering voting this way "I am a terrorist, and think you should mind your own business". I rest my case...
