Default PW House of Representatives?

Just an idea...

We spend a great deal of time debating the issues, but we generally don't spend a great deal of time looking at the actual legislation that is before the congress. Personally, I would LOVE for us to have a section of the forum where we debate specific bills/resolutions and the like. We could amend them as we saw fit and lets see what comes out of OUR congress!

If we are to do this we need Cnredd to set it up for us and we would need to elect a Speaker of the House who will set the debate agenda.

I nominate Spencer Collins as the Speaker of the House and propose that the first item on our agenda be H.R. 1585, the National Defense Authorization Act.

"The House on Wednesday passed a measure authorizing $696 billion in military programs, including $189 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan."
House Passes $700 Billion Defense Spending Bill

Anyone else game? I think this would be fun, informative, and we could actually propose solutions instead of just screaming about the problems.

They just ask them to be smart, truthful, honest, and show a modicum of good sense." Ann Richards, Former Texas Governor

I love the idea, but it actually sounds TOO specific...

A) We HAVE a forum called "Politics", so a new forum isn't needed for legislation, since this is already covered...

B) Anyone who has the motivation to do so has the power...making someone a "Speaker" makes it an obligation...I just suggest someone making themself the speaker by creating threads about bills and discussing them...

Unless I'm missing something...

Far be it from me to criticize anything you've done boss, and this isn't an attempt at that. I was merely suggesting that we actually create a policy. We don't do that. If we spent some time coming up with solutions, they could actually be forwarded as an idea to our congressional leaders.

It's supposed to be specific. It's supposed to be something we can agree upon that would actually be progress instead of the BS we are currently offered by our congressmen.

Actually, I'd expect the opposite...If someone thinks I'm doing something wrong, I'd want to hear it as soon as possible...The last thing I want to do is do something that ultimately is not in the best interests of the forum...

Everybody has the initiative to create their own policy...

If YOU want to be the motivation for creating threads of discussing bills, no one is stopping you...

I'd even post a thread saying you are taking charge...

As far as forwarding it to our Congressional leaders, I've already thrown that out to Spencer awhile ago....But we need a stronger membership before we do that...But that idea is already on the table...

Sounds like an interesting concept and it may spawn debate.I say aim small miss small, start out with discussing legislation and see where it goes!..

I like the idea...

especially being specific in regards to staying on topic...

the idea that we would take real legislation & tweek it together in a compromise & debate just like congress & see if we could do a better job...

Like the idea. I second the nomination of SC as speaker of the House.

This is still an interesting concept but the summer months are very busy.I think we could pick this up again in September when members have more time.
