I was one of the very few SRV fans in my neck of the woods who actually listened to his music while he was still alive. Then he dies and now everyone and their dog is suddenly an SRV fan who never even heard of him while he was alive. Sometimes the best thing you can do to acheive immortality is to die early. Led Zeppilin is the greatest. Eric Clapton has always been overrated I know. I have been a guitarist for over 40 years. He is a qualified guitarist but he never crreated anything new on guitar. Neither did SRV for that matter. He was good a copying Hendrix. And I do like kistening to him. But Jimmy Page and Hendrix made their own rules. Just like Jeff Beck. These guys are and were innovators. If you really pay attention to Clapton he is actually a pop guitar player. He even could be classified as country in some respects. Lay down Sally isn't rock. He stoled rock songs from Bob Marley. Cocain and I shot the Sheriff were pure rip offs. I could go on but one more thing. Rory Gallagher was rocking Ireland like a real rocker but wouldn't do pop singles for the money.
