Re: Dancer Cyd Charisse, 86, danced her way into film history
She was a dynamite dancer, for sure - and those ten mile legs were amazing.
I know "Brigadoon" of course (huge old movie fan here!) - but it's not one of my favorites. I feel like they managed to extract every breath of fresh air in the play from it. I find it stodgy and dull. But she and Gene Kelly are glorious dancing together (especially in Heather on the Hill).
My favorite Cyd films are "Singin' in the Rain," "Band Wagon," and "Silk Stockings."
I don't think Hollywood really knew what to do with her. She was very talented - and certainly beautiful - and quite popular - but she actually made very few films. Most of her work was later doing cameo tv appearances.
