Default Sarandon Threatens to leave the US if McCain wins

On a roller-coaster with Susan Sarandon

Quote:
Always busy, Sarandon is about to start work on the romantic period drama The Colossus, but with the presidential election campaign being heatedly contested, she also has bigger things to consider.

"If McCain gets in, it's going to be very, very dangerous," she says.

"It's a critical time, but I have faith in the American people. If they prove me wrong, I'll be checking out a move to Italy. Maybe Canada, I don't know. We're at an abyss."
Alec Baldwin said the same thing before if Bush won...But he was a liar...

I had some hippy friends back in the day who swore they would move to Alaska if Nixon ever became president.
These people were "purists" you might say. About what they ate (micro-biotic diet), about their music and definitely about not "selling out" to the man.

Well they moved alright, but not to Alaska. I met them in the eighties and they were doing a show at the piano bar of their own little restaurant in Southern California. They'd even had some of their house entrees written up in gourmet magazines.
And by the way in case anyone forgot. Nixon did become president. And in my mind one of the better commanders in chief we've had in my lifetime.

I never noticed she was here to begin with ...

I guess that means I won't miss her when she leaves.

I did notice she was here but it was because "Thelma and Louise" was my "Catcher in the Rye". I don't get why guys love catcher in the rye and they probably don't get why I loved that movie. Well loved isn't the proper word I guess. Let's just call it a water shed moment.

I tried to read Catcher in the Rye, but I thought it was boring before I finished the first chapter and never went back, so, that and how it relates to Thelma and Louise is completely lost on me.

I did like Thelma and Louise, though, probably for different reasons than you do.

The only Sarandon role I can remember on my own was a John Grisham novel; she played a nun, IIRC, trying to save Sean Penn from being executed or something. Penn was also good in that one.

Maybe she was in two Grisham based movies; I think she played 'Reggie Love' in one, too.

I really hate when celebrities throw their politics in our faces, but I don't have a problem when they give up their prior career for a career in politics.

Do one or the other, but don't do both. If you think your star status makes the rest of us swoon over you to the point where your political stance influences ours, you're what's called an egomaniac.

Sarandon should leave now. In my eyes her threatening to move pretty much makes her a non-American from the get go. How silly for a grown adult to make such a childish statement over a 4 year Presidential term.

The only diff between her and you is that she is a celebrity. So she can have as many opinions as she wants. She doesn't tell people to pay attention. Thats up to you. Secondly, I would be shocked that given the mess we are facing that anyone would vote McCain in. And I think for some that would be about the last straw. It is a silly juvenile statement. IMO. But its a little bit understandable.
Given the mess we are in we don't need to elect a guy who admits to not knowing much about economics. And who wants to continue pouring 10-15 billion a month in to Iraq. I don't want lieberman anywhere near the white house either.

Plenty of celebrities have opinions but don't feel the need to air them publically. By making that choice, she does indeed presume that the public should/will pay attention. Of course, she can do what she wants as can they all but by throwing all those opinions out there she will reduce, not increase her fan base.

Oh, and aren't you old enough to have seen enough to realize that 'the mess we are in' isn't really much more of a mess then then mess we've pretty much always been in? Or are you one of those people who always thinks the sky is falling?
