Question Does anybody have "Song of the South" movie?

For many years, Disney has failed to release this because of politics. Who has seen the film? Do you think it should be released in the USA? I do. Forget the politics. Disney might be surprised to see how much money this movie can make for them.

I've never heard of it, but I do have an issue with it not being released...

It's AB-FRIGGIN'-SURD that, in this day an age where people constantly put political and military negative messages in their movies and stand behind the "It's only a movie" declaration that even someone with a moderate IQ would believe a movie would do the opposite...

I saw the 1956? version when I was a little girl. My great Aunt took me to the drive in to see it. Unfortunately there was a triple feature and it came on last. Having slept through the two previous movies, I was wide awake, but my aunt finally nodded off till just before the end when she had to drive us home! She was ticked.
I was already familiar with Uncle Remus and the infamous Briar Rabbit as bedtime stories and later my uncle bought me the book.
I didn't realize Disney wasn't releasing it anymore. sad.

If Walt Disney was alive, we would be watching it in our own homes on DVD (& VHS). Just think about it. 101 Dalmatians was released last week, and with it many features like games, how the movie was made, etc.

Song of the South would have that, too. Games, how the movie was made, the players for the movie like Uncle Remus/James Baskett, and the children who made the movie go.

Yet Roy Disney is holding back on the release of it. And as such, the only way for anybody to see the movie is through the bootleg copies.

I guess Disney does not want to sue because it would take away the enjoyment of people who so much want to watch the movie.

Disney is losing out on a lot of money they can make from this movie. Forget the politics and what the NAACP says about it. The animated movies they have produced in later years have not been so great.

Going further, "Song of the South" is over 60 years old.
It's a PERIOD piece. Not indicative of current mentality.
Movies and TV shows stick up disclaimers all the time. "The following is not reflective of the opinions of ..."

"Birth of a Nation" is out on DVD.
The Birth of a Nation (1915)
If you took it literally, it would be a "how-to..." indoctrination on "Why I think blacks are inferior...".
It's a thousand times more repugnant than "Song of the South" could dream to be, if you took them literally.

Disney theme-parks (I don't know which one) have a ride that covers "Song of the South" and the Fox and the Rabbit and stuff.

I don't get why they won't release it.

Splash Mountain is totally the "Brer Rabbit story". Although the best songs from the movie aren't used.

I would love to see some of the old "Amos and Andy" shows too. Who dat?......Who dat?......Who dat who say who dat when I say who dat.--------From an age of true comedy and talent. Jumpin jehosafats.

Splash Mountain.

I first rode that at Disneyland sometime in the early 1990's. At that time, I didn't know that the attraction was associated with the movie. I rode "Splash Mountain" at Walt Disney World in Florida, too.

I have song of the south, copied from a Japanese laserdisc I rented with a $500 deposit at Scarecrow video in Seattle in the late 90's. If you look around enough, and you have a laserdisc player, you might be able to find it somewhere, but it will be pricey.
