Week 10 NFL Kickoff: Cardinals fight for playoff lives against Seahawks

Sporting News9 Nov 2017, 08:59

Four teams made the playoffs last season after starting 4-4.

Understand that last season was then and things change quite a bit since then.

That's where the Cardinals sit entering Week 10 this year, and they hope to get on a postseason run that could start with Thursday’s home game against the Seahawks (8:25 p.m. ET, NBC, NFL Network, Amazon Prime).

If the Cardinals are going to knock off the Seahawks (5-3), they will need another big game from Adrian Peterson. The 32-year-old ran for 159 yards on a career-high 37 carries in last week’s 20-10 victory over the winless 49ers.

He ran for 134 yards in a win over the Buccaneers (2-6) on Oct. 15, but in between those games was a flat 21-yard output in a 33-0 loss to the NFC West-leading Rams (6-2). The Cardinals will need consistency on the ground to help quarterback Drew Stanton.

Peterson had only 347 total rushing yards in four games against the Seahawks during his time with the Vikings, ranging from a meager 18 yards in a 2015 matchup to an 182-yard effort in a 2012 loss.

Even if the Cardinals can establish the running game, Arizona’s 23rd-ranked defense will have to find a way to slow down the NFC’s leading passer in Russell Wilson. The Seahawks quarterback has thrown for 2,305 yards with 17 touchdowns and six interceptions and has been clutch late with an NFL-best 132.9 passer rating in the fourth quarter.
