It could have been a good storyline if made with a more serious tone, but it was still worth watching imo. The thing that kept occuring to me, though, was why would illegal immigrants think it's heroic and proper to start a revolution in this country, when the more appropriate place to start one may be in their own country, and maybe make it a better place to live. I realize the movie was probably inteded as entertainment, but there were some serious issues addressed. It had an obvious pro-illegal immigration stance, and obvious anti-American capitalism tone. I guess it was made mostly to shock the audience and get people stirred up over the immigration issue, but that position wasn't well-taken imo.

Btw- maybe we need a movie review thread.
The reason they reference a revolution in the US is a doctrine they call "Reconquista" (perhaps not spelled right). It is the notion that the South West states and California were taken from Mexico and they want to take those areas back.

They are doing a good job of taking it back. If enough of them move into the area, it will be theirs by default.

I don't watch anything that's slanted negatively at America. Nor do I waste my time on any pro-illegal crapola. I'm wasn't born yesterday and I know that if you sneak into any country in the world without the proper papers etc. you are there illegally and without permission.

I watched it and enjoyed it as mindless entertainment. In order to save others from wasting their time (unless they want mindless entertainment) here is a very funny Brisk commercial that sums up Machete in 30 seconds!

Thus my description as an odd mix of "Kill Bill" and "Boondock Saints".

Well I don't go so far as to not watch anything that's negatively slanted at the US. I fully realize the US isn't perfect. There's many MANY things we do that I am strongly opposed to. For me, it just depends on what the negative slant is about. And in this case, I knew it was about illegals and thus I wouldn't agree with it in the slightest and only be thoroughly annoyed. LOL

Of course the US isn't perfect. But I watch documentaries on it and not some slanted view in some flick. There's enough hate towards America in real life so why keep that stuff stirred up in a stupid flick. If something is pounded into the heads of people enough times, they tend to believe all the crapola they hear, read or see. One of the major things we do is stick our nose in where it doesn't belong. We are quick to tell other countries what they should or shouldn't do, but don't take care of business here at home. But then, this isn't the thread to go into all of that.

Saw National Treasure last night (I know; I'm way behind). It was entertaining and fun to watch. We have the second one at home to watch tonight.
