hey!...Let's do this nationally!...

Thousands of absentee ballots tossed in tight Maloney-Patel House race

Quote:
A tight race between veteran Congressmember Carolyn Maloney and challenger Suraj Patel has emerged as New York City’s most closely watched Congressional primary — but about 20 percent of voters may end up having no say in the final outcome.

One-in-five mail-in ballots have been tossed out in New York’s 12th Congressional District, which includes Western Queens, Northwest Brooklyn and the East Side of Manhattan, according to Board of Elections documents reported by The Intercept.

The absentee ballots are crucial in the contest, where Maloney, who has served in Congress since 1993, led Patel by 648 votes after the machine tally following the June 23 Democratic primary. Roughly 65,000 NY-12 voters cast their ballots by mail, The New York Times reported.

...“A 1-in-5 disenfranchisement rate is far too high for a developed democracy,” he said in a statement.

Other plaintiffs on the lawsuit include Emily Gallagher, a north Brooklyn Assembly candidate, and a handful of voters. Former Queensborough Community College Prof. Kathryn Stabile, 82, joined the lawsuit after noting that she did not receive her absentee ballot until June 23, the day of the election, Gothamist reported. The plaintiffs are represented by Queens-based attorney Ali Najmi and J. Remy Green.

The BOE declined to comment.

Why, what could possibly go wrong?

this story is self described as based on an Intercept story that includes:

Quote:
a major reason the Cuomo-run Board of Elections is using to invalidate ballots is a lack of a postmark if the ballot arrived at the BoE after that date.
...
postal service employees are instructed to postmark ballots so that they can comply with the state rules.
as well as a great amount of speculation and outright hog wash

it also interestingly mentions trump stopping overtime of postal employees during the election.

at any rate don't fear. I vote absentee all the time. I rarely mail it but drop it off at the court house, but when it was mailed I have faith that it was counted.

Oregon has been doing Vote by Mail since 93 with no major issues, why not just ask us for help in how to do it right.

From the OP

Quote:
For the first time, an executive order issued by Gov. Andrew Cuomo allowed all eligible voters to cast their ballot by mail if they submitted an absentee ballot application, but many voters reported receiving their absentee ballots after election day — or not at all.
Imagine that, a Democrat run state botches a vote by mail scheme so naturally they look to blame the bad Orange man. Just because 20% of the vote got tossed there is no reason we shouldn't impose the vote by mail scam as a national standard, after all President Trump opposes it so it must be good.

I think the USPS operates as a private entity, and as such I don't see how President Trump could stop overtime of it's employees.

The problem with mail in voting is that there is too many people handling each ballot. Boxes of ballots can be can be forgotten in corners. Deliberately or otherwise. With my walk in vote it's handled by me from the time it's blank until I stick it in the counter.

The problem with mail in voting is the practice of mailing ballots to everyone on the voting rolls. Democrats have fought any attempt to clean up voting rolls even after extensive efforts have been undertaken to notify the voter of the pending removal. The result is a flood of ballots distributed to questionable voters and addresses. Naturally so-called activists are aware of when ballots will arrive so they can be harvested for processing.

The US Postal system was one of the first acts of the Congress at our Founding. It was a proud achievement of Ben Franklin's dream. Yet they didn't use it for voting purposes at a time when it was the best, fastest method to communicate..

Too easy to cheat.

By what logic do we think it will work well now?
