Some will be processed, which means free food, free lodging, free medical care, free legal services all paid by the US taxpayers. This is so very wrong. They should be turned back, deported, whatever it takes to prevent burdening the taxpayers with the costs of more illegal invaders. Just cutting off foreign aid to their countries isn't the answer, although it needs to be done.

It is my understanding that those who seek asylum must do it at the first country they come to, and that isn't what these creeps are doing. They are coming HERE to cause trouble, not legally seek asylum. These are foreign invaders and our military should be authorized to shoot invaders.
As today’s news made abundantly clear, the attendees at Trump rallies are far more of a threat to this country than the so-called caravan. Should we authorize the military to shoot the “vermin” attending Trump rallies?

If I were not so civil, I would tell you to blow it out your ass with that asinine remark. Instead, I will say, "May you live forever."

The caravan will be toppled, by the way. Will you go help those poor, downtrodden refugees by offering up your home free of charge to them, or a few of them?

In the midterms the caravan/horde will benefit Trump and Republicans running for office.

Hope Trump deploys a decent-sized military and national guard force. These vermin need to be turned back. It'll show non-retarded Americans that we won't tolerate illegal immigration. If ya wanna come into this country you do it legally. Period.

There you go, another violent Leftist unable to engage in sober discussion of issues resorts to calls for mass liquidation of political opponents. Yes comrade, no Trump, no wall, no USA at all by whatever means necessary.

Until we can change our immigration laws and send them back until their hearing, this will be an issue.
Starting with the backlog it's grown under the Trump mass arrest policies from roughly 500,000 when Trump took office to over 750,000 since Trump's arrest anyone policies took effect. Trump plays both sides of the coin and has both called for more judges but then recently rejected the addition of more immigration judges to process the cases that Congress has been pushing for. The Trump administration instead seeks to use a process based upon dishonesty, coercion, and threats where due process is disregarded so that deportations can be more expeditious.

Refugees showing up at the border attempt to follow the US laws granting asylum but the Trump administration refuses to comply with the laws according to lawsuits.
Quote:
US border officials have systemically blocked asylum seekers from accessing the asylum process, in violation of US and international law, according to a lawsuit filed by immigration advocates on Wednesday.

Under the Immigration and Nationality Act, CBP is required to give individuals the right to seek asylum at ports of entry.

The agency has used tactics, including misrepresentations, intimidation and physical force, to deny people access to the asylum seeking process, according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit said the prevalence of CBP denying people access to the asylum process has been documented by the group, Al Otro Lado, as well as the non-governmental organizations Human Rights First, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.

So they are trying to follow the lawful means of entering the US lawfully and it's the Trump Administration that's systematically in violation of our laws that give them the right to apply.

As for the "only 5% show up for their hearings" would you support a program where 99% show up for their ICE appointments and 100% show up for their court hearings? Trump canceled an Obama era pilot program that had those results.

Quote:
In the wake of the 2014 migrant crisis that saw the Obama administration suffer its own backlash for the way it detained parents and children, Immigration and Customs Enforcement came up with a new way to handle families seeking asylum in the United States.

The Family Case Management Program, launched as a pilot in early 2016, aimed to keep asylum seeking kin together, out of detention, and complying with immigration laws. It was praised by immigration advocates for both its high rate of compliance and its ability to help migrants thrive in a new country — right up until the Trump administration shuttered it almost exactly a year ago.

Under the program, families who passed a credible fear interview and were determined to be good candidates for a less-secure form of release — typically vulnerable populations like pregnant women, mothers who are nursing or moms with young children — were given a caseworker who helped educate them on their rights and responsibilities. The caseworker also helped families settle in, assisting with things like accessing medical care and attorneys, while also making sure their charges made it to court.

“It was really, really cost efficient compared to family detention or family separation,” Katharina Obser, a senior policy adviser for the Women's Refugee Commission's Migrant Rights and Justice program, said.

According to the Inspector General report, overall compliance in the five cities where the pilot was launched was 99 percent for ICE check-ins and appointments, and 100 percent for attendance in court hearings. Just 2 percent of participants absconded during the process.

We had something that was working that was compassionate, humane, cost effective and that was almost perfect when it came to asylum seekers showing up for ICE appointments and court appearances and the Trump administration canceled the program. I would blame our government for the low rates of those showing up for court appearances and not the refugee seeking asylum. We had the "fix" and Trump canceled the program.

That probably depends upon what news channel you watch. If it's Fox News with it's Trump agenda then you'll see what they want you to see. If it's any of the independent news media sources you'll see the interviews with the women and their children, some still infants, that have fled in fear from their native countries.

The opinion that the men from 18-50 should stay and fix the problems in their own countries is only valid if they have any possibility of fixing those problems. Is there evidence that this is possible? We need to remember that the US has backed some of the most tyrannical leaders in Central and South America in the past and for the 18-50 year old men to take on their corrupt governments would require them to take on the United States government as well. Is it possible for them to win that war?

It's easy for us to say what someone else "should do" but pragmatically what we're demanding may be impossible for them to do.

Based upon the corruption, brutality, inhumanity, immorality, dishonesty, and incompetence of the Trump administration the White House is the dirtiest house in America and there's no known cleanser that with remove the stains of the Trump Administration.

I ask again here. Those people who don't believe America is a great country, why, in the name of Mohammed's butthole, are you so insistent on having those poor, downtrodden refugees come here? Would not they be better off in some other paradise, like Saudi Arabia, Europe, Australia, Canada--WOHHHH-HAHAHAHA. Never mind. Sometimes I feel like I'm asking chimpanzees that question.

It is because we believe that America is a great country that we also believe that these refugees would be better off receiving asylum in the United States when compared to other countries. It's those that oppose allowing the refugees being granted asylum in compliance with our laws that apparently believe that the United States is not a great country that provides refugees with asylum.

We need to always remember that one of the many reasons the United States is a great country is because of our immigration policies that grant asylum to refugees.

That certainly is a good way to twist things around. NOW, leftists believe America is a great country.

And add their saving grace, "compared to other countries", to placate the unruly, die hard leftist mob who say otherwise.

And then, they believe that those of us who oppose unknowns coming here to receive welfare goodies while they do their mischief and mayhem, think America is a lousy country.

I think I will read ANIMAL FARM again. It provides more sanity than the bullshlt I just read.

The thread asks "How the Migrant Caravan Became a Trump Election Strategy" and the answer is simple. Donald Trump has been using his intentional strategy of dividing America based upon the prejudice of White Nationalists with lies and false misrepresentations because it works.

In the case of the "caravan" it's the animus of the White Nationalists against Hispanics that comes to the forefront and Trump has been propagating that hatred since Day One of he campaign. The following words (paraphrased) are all lies or misrepresentations of the truth by Donald Trump.

"Mexicans (Hispanics) are rapists and criminals."

"Mexicans (Hispanics) are infesting the United States."

"I can't get a fair trial (in the Trump University fraud lawsuit) because the judge is of Hispanic heritage."

"The caravan are part of a wave of Hispanics coming to invade the United States."

"Middle Eastern (Muslim terrorists) are a part of the caravan."

"MS-13 has infiltrated the caravan to get members into the United States."

"George Soros is providing funding for the caravan." (Trump couldn't resist playing the anti-Semite conspiracy theory card of the White Nationalists)

"Criminal Mexicans (Hispanics) are grabbing children coming to the United States alone and claiming that they are the parents of these children to gain access to the United States.

All of the above are false and misleading statements.

Those in the "caravan" are refugees fleeing violence against them that came together for mutual protection.

Those in the "caravan" entered Mexico legally.

Those in the "caravan" are coming to the United States with the intent of entering the United States lawfully based upon the US Refugee Law.

The caravan is about lawful immigration to the United States and not unlawful immigration to the United States.

It's the Trump administration that will be in violation of US law if it refuses to grant refugee visas or by intentionally stonewalling the providing visas to those in the caravan.

Nonetheless Donald Trump has been very successful in using lies and misinformation from the White Nationalists to promote himself and his political agenda. He relies upon the anti-Hispanic prejudice of conservative white men that are willing to accept his lies and misinformation because of their prejudice against Hispanics (Muslims, Jews, Chinese, LGBTQ, women, etc,) simply because it works.
