Facebook says 126 million Americans may have seen Russia-linked political posts | Reuters

Quote:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Facebook Inc (FB.O) said on Monday that Russia-based operatives published about 80,000 posts on the social network over a two-year period in an effort to sway U.S. politics and that about 126 million Americans may have seen the posts during that time.
Quote:
Facebook’s latest data on the Russia-linked posts - possibly reaching around half of the U.S. population of voting age - far exceeds the company’s previous disclosures. It was included in written testimony provided to U.S. lawmakers, and seen by Reuters, ahead of key hearings with social media and technology companies about Russian meddling in elections on Capitol Hill this week.
Quote:
Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) separately has found 2,752 accounts linked to Russian operatives, a source familiar with the company’s written testimony said. That estimate is up from a tally of 201 accounts that Twitter reported in September.

Quote:
Google, owned by Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.O), said in a statement on Monday it had found $4,700 in Russia-linked ad spending during the 2016 U.S. election cycle, and that it would build a database of election ads.

Quote:
Executives from Facebook, Twitter and Google are scheduled to appear before three congressional committees this week on alleged Russian attempts to spread misinformation in the months before and after the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

And only potential Hillary Clinton voters were manipulated into voting for Donald Trump by the Russians.
Amazing.

It should bother you that it was done, not how it affected the Donald.

How many French? How many Canadians? How many Mexicans? How many Iranians?...

What?...You didn't bother because they don't advance the anti-Trump narrative?...

Here's former Mexican president Vincente Fox in February of 2016...

Ex-Mexican President Fox: Donald Trump reminds me of Hitler

Is this NOT trying to "influence" an election?...

Is this NOT "an effort to sway U.S. politics"?...

Was the American media complicit in presenting this to the US public?...

So if a Hillary-lovin foreigner spouts Trump hatred, that's Ok, but if OTHER foreigners pay a US company (that gladly accepted the money) to advertise THEIR opinion that doesn't support the Trump hatred, that's all bad and sh*t...

It's the difference between an honestly represented opinion (and admittedly delusional from Ex-Mexican President Fox) ...
... and purposefully planned lies.

I posted this in another thread...

Twitter took 11 months to close a Russian troll account that claimed to speak for the Tennessee Republican Party even after that state's real GOP notified the social media company that the account was a fake.

The account, @TEN_GOP, was enormously popular, amassing at least 136,000 followers between its creation in November 2015 and when Twitter shut it down in August, according to a snapshot of the account captured by the Internet Archive just before the account was "permanently suspended."

Some of its tweets were deliberately outrageous, the archive shows, such as one in December 2016 that claimed that unarmed black men killed by police officers deserved their fate. It also trafficked in deliberate fake news, claiming just before it was shut down that a photo of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ NBA championship parade was actually a crowd waiting to hear Donald Trump speak.

Twitter, already under fire, along with Facebook, for being slow to recognize its role in Russian election meddling, declined to comment. A spokesperson told BuzzFeed News that the company does not comment on individual accounts.

@TEN_GOP gained enough support from the far right that when it was finally shut down, commentators like Reddit’s pro-Trump r/the_donald forum expressed outrage. Jack Posobiec, a pro-Trump internet activist who himself has more than 213,000 Twitter followers, questioned the action when Twitter temporarily suspended the account in July.
The reason why this is wrong is because it is somebody lying about who they are to misrepresent the positions of a group.

It's the difference inbetween:
a) Me posting "Trump is the devil" under my ID, and
b) Me pretending I am you (successfully) and posting "Trump is the devil".
You know they aren't the same thing...

EXACTLY what I've been saying.
http://www.politicalwrinkles.com/new...overnment.html

But the right is too damn caught up in being scared about the implications for their side to acknowledge that it's wrong and should be stopped.

The only question the Trumpsters care about is how it effects the Donald.
