You’re Still A Racist, Obama Advisor Says

Quote:
Even if you vote for Obama, you’re still probably a racist, according to Harvard law professor Charles Ogletree, in his remarks at a recent panel discussion at my alma mater. Ogletree, Obama’s top advisor on race issues, explains that since Obama is “biracial,” his election won’t prove that racism has receded. White America won’t vote for blacks, Ogletree argues, and Obama’s election is possible only because he’s partly white.
Identity politics 101...

You know...that stuff Obama broke his campaign finance promise for because he said he needed to defend against...

Hey Obama supporters...here's what you're voting for...

Quote:
The ABA Journal predicts that Ogletree, who has long advocated race-based reparations, will be the Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Civil Rights Division during the Obama administration.

Legal commentator Walter Olson notes that Ogletree has attracted controversy over his association with Al Sharpton and history of plagiarism.
Have fun with that!...

What fun??? There's nothing negative about McCain/Palin, so there's no story here...

I really don't give a flying crap about this man, but I was curious enough to look at your source. There isn't even a quote here!! Seriously, I could go trolling in blogs and find someone who would tell me the moon is made of cheese and make it sound official, . Where's the transcript of what was said? Video? recording? something that I can make a judgement of my own as to the context of what was said - if it indeed was said?

I did find though that the "plagiarism" amounts to six paragraphs, to which Ogletree declares the following:

But Ogletree told The Crimson that he had not read the passage of Balkin’s book that appears in his own work. An assistant inserted the material into a manuscript and intended for another assistant to summarize the passage, according to Ogletree’s statement. The first assistant inadvertently dropped the end quote, and the second assistant accidentally deleted the attribution to Balkin before sending a draft to the publisher.

Oh yes, sounds like a cheating fiend to me, . Furthermore, the victim of the plagiarism you ask?

“He has been incredibly gracious throughout the process,” Ogletree said of Balkin.

Can't follow links?...

On the original source I posted, you can click any one of the multiple places the author has underlined in his writings...one of them goes to a freerepublic page...(Freerepublic is VERY partisan (a conservative circlejerk)and I don't use them as a source, but the site does DOES tell you where to go for the recording you ask for...

News flash: Obama is "biracial," according to his top adviser on race issues, Harvard law professor Charles Ogletree, during an Oct. 25 panel discussion at Harvard on race and the 2008 election: Internet Archive: Details: Ogletree Says Because Obama is "Biracial," His Election Won't Prove End of Racism

Ogletree's point is that because of pervasive racism which he expects will last decades, white America won't vote for blacks and other minority candidates. The expected heavy white vote for Obama doesn't disprove this thesis, Ogletree says, because Obama's not black; he's "biracial." So it looks like, according to Ogletree (and Obama?) that white America will have to do lots more for blacks after electing Obama to atone for past sins; it will get little if any credit for electing Obama.

If it wasn't already obvious, it's pretty clear which campaign is playing the race card: Obama's campaign keeps bringing up issues of race; McCain's campaign has not initiated any such discussion.

Note that Ogletree can't be dismissed as some fringe Obama kook like Jeremiah Wright. Ogletree's a tenured professor at Harvard Law School. According to the ABA Journal, Ogletree (who was a mentor during law school to both Barack and Michelle Obama) has a very good chance of being appointed as the top Department of Justice official in charge of civil rights enforcement in any Obama Administration: http://abajournal.com/magazine/the_l..._america_obama

Wondering whether this snippet was perhaps taken out of context? There's a full audio of the entire Harvard panel discussion here: Internet Archive: Details: Oct. 25, 2008, Harvard Law Town Hall on Race and the 2008 Election

Other audio snippets from the program of possible interest:

1. Ogletree jokes about the mysterious disappearance of Jeremiah Wright until after the election; apparently, the Obama campaign forced him to call off his book tour, and into hiding: Internet Archive: Details: Charles Ogletree on Jeremiah Wright, Oct. 25, 2008

2. Ogletree says some voters view Barack Obama as white and others view him as black: http://www.archive.org/details/Charl...dBlackOct.2520 08

3. More from Ogletree on his prediction that white racism will persist for many more decades: Internet Archive: Details: Ogletree on Persistent Racism, Oct. 25, 2008
All you had to do was follow the links...

You got me there because I have restricted access to streaming media at work. If I were remotely interested I would offer to look at it when I get home, but to tell you the truth, Personally I think it is as stupid to say that a white person is voting for Obama because he is half white, as it is stupid to say that anyone is voting for Obama because of his black half. Obama is a man, not a latte. But, it is a free country and everyone is entitled to an opinion, There is pervasive racism in this country from every race, that much is true.

But not every person pushing that racism is being considered for Deputy Attorney General of the United States and in charge of the (*cough*) Civil Rights Division...

Kinda like asking the Unibomber to guard the explosives...

Um. Racism IS being considered.
Some people DO look at Obama as being "white", and some look at him as being "black".
Racism will probably exist for many decades, although I doubt it will ever go away completely. You even posted a link to statistics on people (Democrat / Republican) who would agree with statements like "Blacks are lazy".

HOW is any of this controversial when these are just plain facts???

As for the originating quote that brought on this thread, I am somewhere inbetween interested into wading through the audio file to listen for it, and annoyed that it's a 45 MB audio file.
And of course, the article doesn't give any guidance on where in this 94 minute MP3 that the quote exists...
Why does that not surprise me...

If this is true, I rank it up there with McCain having a health advisor whose "medical plan" is for Americans to go to the emergency room.
I bet most people hadn't even heard of this position (if he were to be appointed) before now.

Pushing that racism? Are you for real? The man has an opinion of what motivates whites to vote for Obama and he has a right to express that opinion whether you agree with it or not. He's also one of the lawyers pushing for the government to pay reparations for slavery (little tidbit I ran into while looking him up). Controversial, perhaps, but so are many elected politicians. I may not agree with him, but that does not mean he will not do a good job regardless if he is indeed appointed.

Well if blacks want to play the race card I wish they would play at least a 9, 10, or a face card cause this 3 of spades that they are playing now is giving them a BAD REPUTATION that will do nothing but get worse.

Just look at what all you have to IGNORE in order to think that this man would be a good president. I could name bunches of better black candidates. Some of which ran for office as Republicans and were DEFEATED by white Democrats and some that won their elections.

I'll start the list and ya'll can help;

Bill Cosby
J C Watts
Steele
Lyn Swann
Herman Caine
Larry Elder
Thomas Sowell
Walter Williams
Alan Keyes
