Arrow Sound Off!! (After the Debates)

After the debates are over, they've swept the floor and turned out the lights, you can still come here (to our grungy but somehow elite digs ), talk about what went wrong. What went right and how you think your candidate fared.
What were the highlights for you?
Did anyone answer your burning question? Hhmm...?

McCain was the clear winner though neither lit a fire under me!
He is clearly more at ease in this format, and mentioned some things I had not heard before. If it wasn't for his poor choice in a Veep nominee, I might have another look at voting for John McCain based on the fact his performance tonight reminded me he is a sincere American who has fought his own party on issues he felt affected the public.
Obama did not do a shabby job. He answered questions I already knew his views on.

Obama hit hard on the economy and McCain held his own. Both did much better than expected.Obama has improved on "detail" but McCain needed a "clear" and convincing win tonight and I believe he came up short.McCain landed a few punches but Obama came back and made McCain look foolish in his attempt to frame Obama as a hawk pertaining to his comments on Pakistan! To put it mildly...McCain's strategy "backfired" and Obama made "him" look like the hawk.

I also believe McCain missed some golden opportunities to turn the tide! When Obama started talking about JFK I expected McCain to take him down with Sen Bentsen's famous quip but McCain though likely tempted, let it pass.

Was this debate a game changer? I doubt "anyone" here has "changed" their support and jumped ship at this late juncture!

We did see a little more substance from both candidates and that's all good! Sadly...both candidates avoided the question on "sacrifice" so we will have to wait until the next debate and BTW..has McCain selected a running mate yet..

This format allowed Obama to look Presidential while McCain looked like a high school debater. Frankly I'm shocked because this is supposed to be McCain's format.

Because Obama's taller? Or what do you mean?

Well that... lol

No, it's that Obama was much calmer than McCain. He was in control of his words, his visible emotions, and his message. McCain allowed Barack Obama to be in control of his message. For every mention of John McCain by Obama, McCain had four or five attacks on Obama. It was the debate tactics of a man who could no longer win on the issues.

This was supposed to be Obama's worst debate according to all the pundits. John McCain's strong suit was this type of format. If McCain was going to have a 'turn around', it was going to be tonight. He didn't do that. He didn't make any ground against Obama that could turn the tide.

This means Obama wins.

Unlike the Sarah Palin , Joe Biden debate, our locals calling into KBOI radio in Boise were mostly of the mind the Republican candidate won. Of course this is Idaho , but they weren't 100% Palin callers like they all seemed to favor McCain tonight.
Wonder what the polls will show tomorrow.
really I'm so sick of this campaigning. I wish they hadn't started so early.

Obama...not a huge landslide, but a decent one...

As Spencer pointed out earlier, nothing from either side jumped out...

The problem was nothing was mentioned on the topics McCain needs to push literally (abortion, gun rights, "heartland topics") and figuratively (judgement & character)...

Every question allowed the candidate to go into "stump speech mode" and no one got any peek at the candidates as people...They only appeared as candidates being candidates...

This means both candidates did what they alawys do..."blah, blah, blah try the veal" and made no attempts to differenciate themselves as not only the better candidate, but the better PERSON. McCain needed that to score...The questions didn't open him for it, but he also didn't take it upon himself to do so...
