Default McCain claims bailout credit

Previewing a McCain campaign message for the days ahead, top strategist Steve Schmidt claimed Sunday that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is partly responsible for the tentative agreement on a mortgage bailout that congressional leaders announced shortly after midnight.

Schmidt was appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” with David Axelrod, the Obama campaign’s chief strategist, who ridiculed the McCain claim as “a little bit of fiction.”

Obama, asked on CBS’s “Face the Nation” if McCain deserved credit for bringing lawmakers together, replied “No,” according to AP.McCain claims bailout credit - Mike Allen - Politico.com

There is a double-edged sword here.
Many Americans are pissed over this deal.
News Today AP Poll: Bailout not supported

McCain "taking credit" for it can have negative repercussions.

But at the same time, I imagine there are going to be some who oppose the bailout, but don't give a hoot over McCain's claimed involvement at all...

I watched that BS from him today with Stephenopolis. Everyone in WARRRshington says he did nothing but watch. And then he says when asked about what he did. He says "I'll let the American people judge" What a friggin phony. I am getting to like him less every time I see his mug. He couldn't answer because he did sqat.

Already shown what happened...Nobody ripping McCain in this thread responded to it...

I guess they don't mind when they tell the American people they NEED McCain, but when they find out that might make him look like a leader, they reverse course and tell him to get lost...

Don't worry about this McCain attackers...

Nobody notices this...especilly not me...

I don't care what Harry Reid says. He is a moron. My point is about what McCain actually did. And from all accounts he did nothing. So the politics aside. What did he do? Exactly. Except play politics. Heither one of them needed to be there for this meeting. It was a photo op. Thats all.
McCain is good at not answering for anything. Just like when they should him on4e of his ads that quoted a newspapers false statements. His answer was its true that the paper said it. He didn't address the fact that it was false. And just like this situation. Why not just tell the truth. Why leave it ambiguous.
And then he goes off on a tangent that it is Baracks own fault for not doing town halls. So if you don't do what McCain wants then its OK for McCain to lie like a dog.

From what I've heard, Obama did even less. When he went to Washington he attacked the House Republican alternative plan (without understanding it) and blew the whole meeting at the White House.
