Default First Debate - Kissinger

As I said earlier in the Shoutbox...

"I wouldn't be surprised if someone caught something wrong and pointed it out on the net tomorrow..."

That has come to fruition...

One argument the Senators had was whether or not Obama was following Kissinger's previous position that meeting with certain leaders without preconditions was A-OK...

Obama said it WAS Kissinger's position...MCCain said it wasn't...

Now PLEASE don't misconstrue whether or not it is a position you agree with...JUST the fact of whether or not it IS Kissinger's position in the first place...

And it's already been cleared up...Obama was talking out of his ass...

Kissinger Unhappy About Obama

Quote:
Henry Kissinger believes Barack Obama misstated his views on diplomacy with US adversaries and is not happy about being mischaracterized. He says: "Senator McCain is right. I would not recommend the next President of the United States engage in talks with Iran at the Presidential level. My views on this issue are entirely compatible with the views of my friend Senator John McCain. We do not agree on everything, but we do agree that any negotiations with Iran must be geared to reality."
So when candidate "A" says Kissinger believes something, and candidate "B" says it's untrue, the only thing to do is ask the person in question himself...

And the results are in...

Either Obama is outright lying, or he's so inept to not understand a previous Secretary of State's position he'd try to make this false assumption his own platform...

Actually, Kissinger isn't normally clear. As a diplomatic strategist, it's his job to be a bit vague as there is uncertainty in diplomacy. You could read virtually anything into his positions if you so choose.

If he isn't "as clear" as you suggest, I don't see how a simple phone call wouldn't have cleared it up instead of Obama immmediately coming out and stating Kissinger's position as fact...

And you're making the point I made earlier in the original post...

Apparently, YOU seem to know that "it's his job to be a bit vague as there is uncertainty in diplomacy", but Obama doesn't know that...

You're actually telling me that you understand this aspect of foreign policy better than Obama...

If I were you, I'd call Biden at once and ask him to reconsider his position to your camp...

That's not what I said at all. What I'm saying is that what Kissinger said could be interpreted in several ways. Obama's interpretation is just a relevant as McCain's despite the original intent of Kissinger. Kissinger's intent is irrelevant. His words are relevant.

Obama knows that Kissinger is vague. It's why he exploited the words.

But then you (or Obama) would have to provide what Kissinger said that was "so vague" that it could be interpreted several ways...

If YOU say that "it's a Secretary of State's job" to be vague, I'll take you're word for it (I'm not a Secretary of State officianado...but I will say I've never heard this before...and I've been around)...

But Obama needs to point out what Kissinger ACTUALLY SAID to make Obama believe that his platform was based off Kissinger...

During the debate, Obama said "He said it"...The big question will be "give us the specifics"...and not some line taken out of context or Kissinger being sarcastic either...That would destroy Obama's whole argument...

What's really funny is that Kissinger has been the bane of the Democrats existance for the last 40 years...

His supporters should be sitting there thinking "WTF is he doing following an a-hole like Kissinger anyway?"...

THAT will never be brought up by the MSM...

Actually I have great respect for Kissinger. I don't always agree with him, but I think that he is an intelligent man. I'm somewhere between Kissinger and Allbright.

At any rate, diplomacy is vague so as to avoid offending. It's an art. Getting your point across without it having a point.

And no matter how many trips he made to the area, Kissinger never made a dent in the Middle east peace process. Why are they acting as if he is an authority on anything? Because he's still alive and can remember back that far?
So is Jimmy Carter. I think he got closer than anyone in any kind of peace plan.

I think he was crystal clear. Obama was wrong.

This is a knats ass. End of the day Obama isn't and was never going to just fly over and sit down with Akmadinajhad. And isn't that the real point. We are discussing minutia. Kissinger is a jerk. I have always thought so. So what he thinks about anything is really not that important. The whole entire point is that McCain again is lying. Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with them. But he has to spend time answering for something that was never his agenda. And we all know that. But this is the right. Wheres your lapel pin. Obama had one. Where was McCains? I mean this is the level of debate?

Its all side issue crap to keep your eyes of the ball. I ain't buying in.

Are you a diplomat? How intensively do you study foreign policy? How many years have you been debating foreign policy on an academic level?

YOU thinking he was clear is about as valuable as a bucket of warm spit. Foreign policy is meant to be vague as to allow for negotiations. Kissinger had a knack for it.
