Default McCain is 72. He's had cancer 4 times

No shame...

A look at McCain's health records

Quote:
Republican presidential candidate John McCain's campaign allowed The Associated Press to review his medical records, spanning 2000 through May 2008. Highlights of the records:

_His most recent complete physical was in March; his latest checkup was last week.

_Blood pressure was 134 over 84. Optimal is below 120 over 80, and high blood pressure begins at 140 over 90. An in-between reading is sometimes called prehypertension, but McCain's doctor said other recent readings were lower and his blood pressure is normal.

_Total cholesterol is a healthy 192, below the worrisome 240 level. His so-called bad or LDL cholesterol is a healthy 123. But his so-called good or HDL cholesterol is 42, below the recommended 60.

_He weighs 163 pounds and is 5 feet 9 1/2 inches tall.

_His BMI, or body mass index, was just under 24, which puts him at upper end of normal; 25 or higher is overweight.

_He has had four separate melanomas removed, in 1993, 2000 and 2002. Most were very early stage forms but one, a spot on his temple in 2000, was invasive cancer deemed "intermediate-stage" melanoma. He has had no sign of melanoma since 2002, but has his skin checked every three or four months. Doctors frequently remove precancerous lesions and in February removed a small, early squamous cell carcinoma, an easily surgically cured skin cancer.
Besides outright lying about releasing his medical records, this is an obvious scare tactic that will probably backfire with seniors...the most loyal when it comes to showing up at the booths on election day...

Liberal groups make issue of McCain's skin cancer

Quote:
Two liberal political action committees are making an issue of John McCain's past bouts with skin cancer in a television commercial that features his facial scar and demands that the Republican presidential nominee release his medical records to the public.

The 30-second ad, so far airing for $50,000 only on MSNBC, is paid for by Brave New PAC and Democracy for America, a political group headed by James Dean, the brother of Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean.

"John McCain is 72 years old and had cancer 4 times," the ad's text says over a black-and-white image of McCain with the left side of his face bandaged after surgery in 2000. "Why won't McCain release his medical records?"

The ad is the most public and unflinching effort to turn McCain's health into a political issue. It is part of a broader effort by the two groups for McCain to make his health records public. About 2,500 doctors have signed a Brave New PAC petition calling for the documents to be released, according to group spokesman Leighton Woodhouse...

In May, McCain made 1,173 pages of medical documents available to a small group of reporters to examine for a several hours. His campaign did not release the documents and reporters were not allowed to make copies.
The very same kind of ads Obama said he wouldn't take public financing for so he could fight against them...

How funny we find this out...

Quote:
Brave New PAC is a political group connected to film producer and political activist Robert Greenwald. A spokesman for the Republican National Committee pointed out that Greenwald is president of Brave New Foundation, a nonprofit group whose chairman is Stanford Law professor Lawrence Lessig, who has advised Obama's campaign on Internet technology matters.

"The fact that Howard Dean's brother and an adviser to the Obama campaign are behind despicable and cheap smear ads against Sen. McCain is deeply disappointing, but in no way surprising," said RNC spokesman Danny Diaz. "Barack Obama has promised Americans an elevated debate offering nothing but gutter, Chicago-style politics."
Pay no attention to the men behind the curtain...

I doubt it. We never look at ourselves as "seniors". I've overheard people who looked like they were going to drop over any minute say how old someone else looked!

age is in the eye of the beholder. When My father-in-law RIP was 85 he did not want to join senior citizen groups because they were for "old people"

It is pretty scary that McCain is 72 and has had cancer 4 times... If you aren't concerned in the slightest, you have denial issues.

And if you've read about his health in the original post, you'd know the "concern" is minimal and should NOT be used as a reason to not vote for someone...

Do you think no one should vote for Obama because of his smoking history and could keel over as quick as Peter Jennings did?...

Did you forget about the years McCain spent smoking plus the torture to his body? You are making an argument you cannot win. McCain is infinitely more risky in terms of health so risky in fact that it is perfectly reasonable to be used as a factor in voting for or against the man.

McCain being healthy currently doesn't address his health risk and at his age with his health history, his health could decline rapidly and it is imperative that a voter be real about the risks that are there instead of painting over them with a partisan paintbrush.

Palin would make a better president than Obama or Biden or Mccain.

Oh God, absolutely not. Palin is near the bottom of my list. I would rather see Bob Barr win...

I almost spit out my cancer stick on that one.

By the same criteria, you could say Mickey Mouse would make an excellent Pope.
