First they said it was because they didn't want the event to be percieved as partisan. Then, when it was obvious they had dissed and likely pissed off a prospective Vice President, they came out with this, ... people are covering their asses all the time - it's easy to hide behind "a source" and blame "them".

No comment about the Dems. threatening to rescing the orgs. tax exempt status, just another diversion attempt from the subject of the Dems unethical bullying tactics.

Not so long ago we were begging for his country to come to a bargaining table. Now he is here and it draws nothing but a discussion (here and on the media) about who was going to protest it?

Don't you think the conversation can shift but remain on the meat of the subject? I don't (personally that is) care who snubbed who or who paid taxes.
What I do care about is how the foreign policy of the country is carried out. I made the comment it seemed weird these two important politicians would be attending a protest.
Why didn't they go protest the Olympics? When Putin visits again as he or his guys probably will do eventually, will there be protests including top name senators and governors?
Don't you think this looks fishy? I want to know why we are protesting someone who was obviously invited to speak.
And I'm not taking up for him, I just want to know what the deal is?
