She is the Commander of the State's National Guard.

I'd guess she knows more about the military than most Senators. She has visited the troops.

In my view, McCain has pointed out just how unqualified Obama is.

A WOMAN who is 3 years younger than Obama has more experience and more job specific experience and better job performance ratings than Obama. And she is running as VP!

I can't see how Obama's campaign can overlook the implications of McCain's selection.

Not only is McCain better qualified than Obama, but Sarah Palin is even better qualified than Obama.

That must be embarrassing to his supporters.

You keep going back to titles. Brownie was in charge of FEMA. And Sarah is in charge of the national guard of Alaska. See my point. You give the title like because she was elected to be Governor that she is all of the sudden qualified to run a country. I just pointed out that Obama is a law professor. And that he already has good relations with the world leaders. And you come back with. Sarah is in charge of the Alaska national guard. I don't even know why we are having this argument.
Its like George Stienbrenner hiring a little leaguer to coach his team. Because they won the little league world series.
I can't fight self delusion. You guys wouldn't vote for Obama if McCain put Lassie on the ticket. I can see it now. "What a great pick Lassie is" He is pretty and shiny. And has more hair then Biden. And he has powers biden doesn't have. He can sniff out Bin Laden. So lets vote Lassie.

The only thing embarrassing is for people who get up and say that a mayor of a town of 6000 people - and who is in the second year of her first term of governor of a state with a population which is smaller than many many many American cities - is somehow this vastly experienced executive.

I don't think she's the anti-Christ (well, after reading that she's anti-choice, anti-gay rights, pro-creationism in schools, pro-war, maybe she is the anti-Christ), but at least be realistic about this "executive experience" you're touting as so superlative.

Face it - at least when he gets to the White House, he won't have to ask for directions.

exactly

they don't care what they say or whether it makes sense

these right wing zealot wackjobs will attack ANY Democrat - before they even know his real name or his background. It's a knee-jerk reaction: "Democrat?! Why he's a #$%^&*()*%#!@$% and he has %^&*(*^# with $%^*&()(^%$#@ and he hates America!"

I've know MANY people longer than Palin whom I wouldn't want in office...ever...

I'm sure you feel the same way about a few, too...

I'm also guessing you've known McCain longer than Obama, but that doesn't seem to sway you...

Why are you so concerned about the backup goalie while giving the starter a free pass?...Going with the "McCain's so old I know he's going to die in office" angle?...

May I remind you he consistantly talks about his mother?...You know...The one whose still alive? (Knocking on wood quickly!)...

Senators vote.

Governors manage, negotiate and decide.

Why governors make better presidents than senators do.

by PETE DU PONT
Thursday, August 12, 2004 12:01 a.m. EDT

My senior senator, Joe Biden of Delaware, gave a hometown speech earlier this year about U.S. foreign policy in Iraq. It was a thoughtful presentation, but it included a criticism of the election of former governors to the presidency because they had no foreign-policy experience and thus were insensitive and less capable regarding foreign policy and international concerns. Senators who've served on the Foreign Relations Committee, he implied, would do much better.

But Mr. Biden has it backwards. Of the 17 presidents of the 20th century, from Teddy Roosevelt through Bill Clinton, eight had been executives before coming to the White House (seven governors and Gen. Dwight Eisenhower), and seven had served in Congress but lacked executive experience. (William Taft and Herbert Hoover held only appointive offices before becoming president.) The current book "Presidential Leadership: Rating the Best and the Worst in the White House," compiled by The Wall Street Journal and the Federalist Society (and available from the OpinionJournal bookstore), asked 78 scholars to rate all our presidents. Among the 20th-century presidents, five of those with executive experience--Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Ike, Ronald Reagan and Woodrow Wilson--ranked as great or near great. Among the seven with legislative experience, only Harry S. Truman made the cut. On average, 20th-century presidents who had been governors (plus Eisenhower) scored 3.51 on a five-point scale; the others who had served in the House or Senate, 2.81.

Which leads to the conclusion that America is usually better off with a president who has had executive experience before reaching the White House. Presidents have to lead, set a course, and come to conclusions. Senators can, with furrowed brow, be very concerned, vote this way and that to show their concern, and hope to gain the votes of the citizens expressing the concerns. But once in the White House, men of concern, consensus and compromise are much less likely to provide the leadership the country needs than men of principle, resolve, and the executive experience to make decisions.

Mr. du Pont, a former governor of Delaware, is policy chairman of the Dallas-based National Center for Policy Analysis. His column appears once a month.

Wheres Johns Dad? On Obama, I am not giving him a free pass. I have said many times that I don't agree with Obama much more then I do McCain. I feel and he appears by the reaction of his colleagues to be above average. Otherwise how do you explain his rise on the inside. Forget the obamamaniacs. I mean seasoned professionals have been taken by him. That is why a freshman was able to get senior senators on both sides to work with him. Is there such a thing as "A Natural" Maybe what he has can't be bought or obtained with time. You know sometimes thats all it is. If we start deciding that all of our Presidents have to be former or full time Pols we are screwed. That experience we don't really need.
