Nader: Obama trying to 'talk white'

Quote:
Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader accused Sen. Barack Obama, the presumed Democratic Party nominee, of downplaying poverty issues, trying to "talk white" and appealing to "white guilt" during his run for the White House.

Nader, a thorn in the Democratic Party's side since the 2000 presidential election, has taken various shots at Obama in recent days while ramping up his latest independent run for president.

In a wide-ranging interview with the Rocky Mountain News on Monday, he said he is running because he believes Democrats, like Republicans, are too closely aligned with corporate interests.

Nader was asked if Obama is any different than Democrats he has criticized in the past, considering Obama's pledge to reject campaign contributions from registered lobbyists.

"There's only one thing different about Barack Obama when it comes to being a Democratic presidential candidate. He's half African-American," Nader said. "Whether that will make any difference, I don't know. I haven't heard him have a strong crackdown on economic exploitation in the ghettos. Payday loans, predatory lending, asbestos, lead. What's keeping him from doing that? Is it because he wants to talk white? He doesn't want to appear like Jesse Jackson? We'll see all that play out in the next few months and if he gets elected afterwards."

The Obama campaign had only a brief response, calling the remarks disappointing.

Asked to clarify whether he thought Obama does try to "talk white," Nader said: "Of course.
There's an element of truth here (and an obvious injection of race), but I "think" this is just Nader trying to get his name in the paper...

Nader has some good talking points. Low income areas are targeted by pay day loan sharks and other blood sucking businesses. Of course, one could argue that that is where their market is. But those types of interests do cause a revolving door to the ghetto.
And Nader is right in implying Obama is afraid to put off white voters by taking on Black issues. Actually the issues are poverty issues, but many Black neighborhoods still fall into that category.
I would love to have the first African American as President in my lifetime, but this Democratic candidate doesn't seem to have an ear to the ground on the real issues of poverty. I don't listen to many speeches, but the ones I've heard seem too general.
Hhmmm...Ralph Nader. I might take a look a him. I didn't know he was really going to run again. Isn't he getting on in years?

I voted for Nader. He's obnoxious, ain't no doubt, but at least he knows Washington inside and out, and who's blowing who, and he knows Democrats are a sham and even more hypocritical than the Republicans. He also puts his money where his mouth is, and gives away half his income every year to various causes; you won't find that in Ospama or the Clintons tax returns. All the noise about 'how much the Clintons gave to charities', and of course the vast bulk of it went to their own 'foundation', where most of the money was still sitting, the last I read about it.

Which half does all the stuttering and gets confused on what his 'position' is when he tries going 'oner on one' answering off the cuff questions that aren't spoon fed to him by his own staff members?
