Default Influx of Voters Expected to Test New Technology

With millions of new voters heading to the polls this November and many states introducing new voting technologies, election officials and voting monitors say they fear the combination is likely to create long lines, stressed-out poll workers and late tallies on Election Day.

At least 11 states will use new voting equipment as the nation shifts away from touch-screen machines and to the paper ballots of optical scanners, which will be used by more than 55 percent of voters.

About half of all voters will use machines unlike the ones they used in the last presidential election, experts say, and more than half of the states will use new statewide databases to verify voter registration.
With Senator Barack Obama’s candidacy expected to attract many people who have never encountered a voting machine, voting experts and election officials say they are worried that the system may buckle under the increased strain...http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/21/us...th&oref=slogin

Oh boy, here we go again.

In the end, it doesn't matter...the commentary will stay the same...

Democrat wins...ACORN were angels...

Republican win...Evil fraud and deception...

I just hope we don't have a fiasco again. If it takes weeks before we know who the Prez is that is kind of scary this time around with troops in the field, and our economic woes.

It will be very interesting in November. I have worked at the polls for 20 years. 15 in Philadelphia where the Dem's ruled. and now down here at the shore where Rep rule. No matter what election we had down here, it was very light. I wonder if all the people will come out of the woodwork to vote. We shall see.

Well, this time around the Republican candidate's brother isn't the governor of a swing state,

SOAPBOX TIME!!!

Screw the "new technology"!! They need to use Vote By Mail like those us who are blessed to live in Oregon have the pleasure of doing. Highly accurate optical readers, a nice paper trail, enfranchising rural and shut-in/physically handicapped voters and doen cheaper than the traditional "voting booth". If done right, it could take the press' screwed up exit polls out the picture and stop them from influencing elections. All we'd have to do is count every single vote and then release the confirmed elections results on ONE day (I've always leaned towards the day after Thanksgiving - give those of us who hate shopping an excuse to avoid the sale insanity ).

Shhh.... His BDS counseling has been going really well, don't screw it up by pushing him to think. He's gotten to the point where he no longer believes the President is in charge of the Crips, Bloods, Hell's Angels and Mongols. He's almost convinced that the President isn't Hitler with a really good plastic surgeon and his last screaming fit when shown a picture of Pres. Bush was only 6 minutes long (a substantial improvement from the 2 hour long rants he had before counseling). So be nice, dga's making progress.

Certainly, the counselor you recommended is doing wonders. He asked me to say hi and to please not forget that just because he reduced your shock therapy to three times a week from daily, does not mean you should get complacent,
