Now just mail out the ballots and let people vote in thier kitchens, in thier bedrooms, in thier underwear, etc. and you'll have the same wonderful system we in Oregon get to use.

The guy on the far right looks a lot like Dan Rather.

I'm sure the D's in Michigan would be all for it but the R's would oppose it. The GOP opposed the Voter Motor bill and also opposed making election day a holiday..

I've got a little bit of an inside track on the history of VBM. The guy who originally proposed making it a full time deal is a Republican (and my wife's cousin, hence the inside track). He went to Oregon Rep. Party, but they didn't want to have anything to do with it. He went to the Oregon Dem. Party and got the same cold shoulder. He went to the League of Women Voters and found a friend. Then the ODP came online (can't piss off the LOWV, yanno) along with OEA and then Bill Sizemore's group (before people realized what nutballs they were). [the official story is a bit different, but I got this straight from the horses mouth] So, if you track it's history, it was a conservative going to liberals and a few conservatives that got this ball rolling. The funny thing is that it was of greatest benefit to Oregon's Republicans. The rural vote (very strongly Rep.) saw the biggest benefit from this and the dumbass Reps. in Salem tried to stop it. I've never understood why Reps. oppose this idea, since they have the most to gain from it.
