No...he revised his stance...because he is aware that the gay vote is substantial and critical to his success. Don't be sour.

In other words, he is pandering to get the gay vote in order to better his chances of being elected. Doesn't seem like he is being very honest, and it is in line with his overall character. In fact, it is deceptive, given the fact that he is telling those potential voters something that he does not support.

I don't want either side messing with the constitution on this issue. I've said it before, but I'll be more frank this time.
Modern lawmakers are not smart enough to make this decision. It's not that I think one side is wrong or right. This amendment -either to make it illegal or legal- is something that needs to be thought out for the other legal ramifications and repercussions as well as its affect on society.
And what scares me is the fact California exports its thinking to the rest of the states via big voter block influence on powerful people.
I think Governor Schwarzenegger was right to oppose it and I think Obama is right to oppose it. Now lets see if he is similarly opposed to Left leaning amendments to the marriage laws.

Illinois senator said he supports extending "fully equal rights and benefits to same-sex couples under both state and federal law."

How does that conflict with the states allowing or disallowing gay marriage?
I heard him say in a speech that you can call it something else so religious groups won't get offended, but give gay couples equal protection under the law for whatever they want to call their (cohabitative) relationship.
