Default Obama:Bush Responsible for Chavez

In the ongoing effort to blame Bush for everything from terrorism to foot fungus to David Archuleta not being the American Idol, this week we have stupid example 65867 of why some people need to be drug tested...

Renewing U.S. Leadership in the Americas -Remarks of Senator Barack Obama - Cuban American National Foundation

Quote:
Since the Bush Administration launched a misguided war in Iraq, its policy in the Americas has been negligent toward our friends, ineffective with our adversaries, disinterested in the challenges that matter in peoples’ lives, and incapable of advancing our interests in the region.

No wonder, then, that demagogues like Hugo Chavez have stepped into this vacuum. His predictable yet perilous mix of anti-American rhetoric, authoritarian government, and checkbook diplomacy offers the same false promise as the tried and failed ideologies of the past.
Umm...excuse me Mister Obama...Time for a course on history...

Quote:
Chávez went on to win the 1998 presidential election on December 6, 1998 with 56% of the votes.
Hmmm...Can't seem to remember who was in office in 1998, but I'm pretty sure his name wasn't Bush...

Didn't we support a coup in Venezuela? Or interfere in their election?

But I do believe his people didn't back his grab for president for life and the changes they got. Sure some die hards did. But I remember some protests even in 1998.
Even these people want freedoms. But I am not for any invasion. Nor anymore internal messing of anothers govt. as we have in the past. Blow back comes from each one of them.

This is why Hillary has a better chance to beat Mccain. Obama needs to shut up with ideas beyond our present situations overseas (ie Iraq, Iran, Israel, Cuba and Afghanistan) and get back to American policy to over come what has us stuck in a deep economy problem and health issues..

I liked what he said about Cuba the other day. But if he is going to start on China, N. Korea and other countries he is way over his head.

We sent Jimmy Carter to "certify" the election......He did. Well actually "we" didn't send him but he went.

We "unofficially" supported a coup in Venezuela, which saw Chavez ousted from office for a grand total of 3 days. While I am no fan of the man, he is not guilty of robbing the election. His policies of aiding the poor, while taking from the rich, gain him the popular vote (voting in mandatory in most South American countries), so as long as his government is investing in social services, confiscating lands from the rich to give to hardworking farmers, and flipping the bird at us, he will win the popular vote - the poor account for 65% - 70% of the population. This in no way benefits the upper middle class, and is detrimental to the elite... add to that his "charmante" personality which makes most South Americans cringe at his crudeness, and that is why you have people that are against him in his own country.
