Upcoming Clinton Victories Ring Hollow Against Delegate Math

by FOXNews.com
Monday, May 12, 2008

Hillary Clinton is campaigning in West Virginia Monday, a day ahead of what is supposed to be a blow-out victory for her in the Mountain State, but one that will be mostly hollow.

Even if Clinton wins 100 percent of the vote and the accompanying 275 delegates available — including superdelegates — in the six remaining Democratic contests, she will end up short of the 2,025 delegates needed to win the presidential nomination. All the Democratic contests are proportional allocation of delegates.

Even if Florida and Michigan, which were penalized for holding their primaries early, are counted, it is very difficult for Clinton to overcome Barack Obama in the numbers race.

Clinton still fares well among working-class white voters, women and older Americans. Those demographics are expected to carry her to a triumph Tuesday and another in Kentucky next week.

Campaigning in the capital of Charleston, Clinton thanked supporters and reminded them that no Democrat has won the White House since 1916 without winning West Virginia. She also reassured volunteers that she’s sticking it out.

“I’ll work hard for you. Get everyone out to vote tomorrow,” she told diners in a restaurant.

I think there are a few reasons why Hillary is.."Sticking It Out"..she needs money to keep coming in.She is also hoping Obama will stumble and she may be looking for the right exit strategy.

I heard (TV pundit) that her strategy is to screw up Obama so badly that McCain wins and she can go for round 2 in 2012...If Obama becomes president, she'd most likely have to wait for 2016...

Don't know how much stock to put in that though...

Yeah..I heard that as well and that "may" be a component of her strategy but I doubt it.She has a lot of campaihn debt, the longer she stays in..the more money she takes in to pay herself back the money she loaned to her campaighn.Another reason..it gives her time to decide the right exit strategy and a chance to manipulate the party before the convention.

I think she is just leaving the final turn and wants to run down the stretch and cross the finish. Even if its second place.. Everyone knows its done barring a huge Obama gaffe.

Or the Democrats strategize to keep the publicity on them for as long as possible since it's free. A snippet here and there of their stump speeches will lead people to start choosing between them, and diss my boy Mick.

You mean the media...

They are the ones that want to keep Democrats in the spotlight...

McCain is an afterthought...until, of course, the generals when everything will be negative...

It's anecdotal, so take it for what you will, but I was over my sister's house yesterday and she told me that other mothers (she's a lunchmother) believe that the big hoopla is whether Hillary or Obama will become president, and have no idea they're foughting for a primaty victory...NOT the overall victory...

Exactly.
That's what I'm getting too. So I'm thinking the Dems are aware of it and maybe it's part of their plan to play along with the media? Just a thought.

They don't HAVE to play along...The media is more than comfortable to do the job for them...

I don't believe Hillary is trying to keep the Democrats in the spolight so the media will help them simply for the fact that the media will help them NOMATTER what the Democrats do...

Olbermann already ordered the two-ply kneepads...

Nope...It's ideology...

Journalism (and to a degree; universities) have held a philosophy of socialism (and borderline Communism) since the counterculture 60s...

Listen to John Lennon's "Imagine"...Journalists and college students have that "eyes glazed" look that it can be achieved...even if our enemies will kill us for it...
