Default Poll: Romney Edges Obama for First Time Since Becoming Nominee

Quote:
Economic concerns are on the minds of voters as Mitt Romney has ticked ahead of President Barack Obama in a new poll for the first time since becoming the Republican nominee even in the face of months of negative advertising and attacks by Obama, the New York Times reported.

The New York Times/CBS News Poll showed that opinions about how Obama is handling the economy have shifted since April, with 39 percent saying they approved and 55 percent saying they disapproved. In April, 44 percent approved and 48 percent disapproved.

Republicans have been concerned with how Romney has handled questions about his tenure at equity firm Bain Capital and his tax returns but those worries seem to be unfounded as 45 percent of those polled say they would pull the lever for Romney if the election was today versus 43 percent for Obama.

When undecided voters are included, Romney is preferred by 47 percent to Obama’s 46 percent, according to the poll, which was conducted between July 11 and 16 and including 982 registered voters.

Another shift was found in how Americans think Obama is handling his job, the Times reported. Now, more Americans disapprove, with 46 percent saying they don’t like the job Obama’s doing to 44 percent who approve.

It's actually better (or worse, depending on your view) because CBS and the NYT do the usual thing...Poll more Democrats than Republicans...

Republican are 27.9% of this poll...

Democrats?...31.3%

So in a poll where Democrats have a 3.4% ADVANTAGE, Romney is leading by a point...

You can imagine that, IN REALITY, Romney would have a 3 or 4% advantage had CBS/NYT did the objective thing and polled people evenly...

But CBS/NYT can't do that...Showing honesty that Romney is ahead by more than a point hurts the Chosen One...

It's a center-right country...Until the media starts polling according to the way THEY want the country to be...

And none of what you said answers your complaint about polling affiliation by party. What are the country's demographics based on political party affiliation?

If you look at Gallup's surveys, we can see that over time there's a pattern showing that folks align with Democrats more so than Republicans (Barely), and Independents more so than Democrats(A bit more than barely.).

Party Affiliation

I love these polls.

I'm waiting for a poll of right handed Cub fans born on a Sunday who think Rex Grossman was better than Kyle Orton and like tilapia vote.

Oh, I'd wait for the poll from left-handed Cub fans born on a Sunday who think Rex Grossman was better than Kyle Orton and like tilapia.

Everyone knows that left-handed people have more interesting and more highly developed minds.
