Default If McCain vs. Obama, 28% of Clinton Backers Go for McCain

If McCain vs. Obama, 28% of Clinton Backers Go for McCain
If McCain vs. Clinton, 19% of Obama backers go for McCain

Quote:
A sizable proportion of Democrats would vote for John McCain next November if he is matched against the candidate they do not support for the Democratic nomination. This is particularly true for Hillary Clinton supporters, more than a quarter of whom currently say they would vote for McCain if Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee.

As would be expected, almost all Democratic voters who say they support Obama for their party's nomination also say they would vote for him in a general election matchup against McCain. But only 59% of Democratic voters who support Clinton say they would vote for Obama against McCain, while 28% say they would vote for the Republican McCain. This suggests that some Clinton supporters are so strongly opposed to Obama (or so loyal to Clinton) that they would go so far as to vote for the "other" party's candidate next November if Obama is the Democratic nominee...

...Here again, as expected, almost all of those who support Clinton for the Democratic Party's nomination say they would vote for her against McCain. Seventy-two percent of those who support Obama for the party's nomination would vote for Clinton against McCain, while 19% would desert and vote for the Republican.
Ouch!...

That flies right in the face when it's touted that either candidate will have the support of the other candidate's supporters if their candidate doesn't get the Democratic nomination...

Doesn't look like that's the case...

A lot of independant voters out there. The thing is some are leaving the Republican camp going over to The Democrat side too!
At least this election won't be boring!

Exactly...I mentioned this a week or so ago.If Clinton gets the nomination not all of the Obama voters will automatically fall in line and support her.I believe there are a number of reasons for this. One reason is that some D's do not want Bill back in the WH. Sure, some would like to see him "home" again but many believe his sexual adventures are bad for the party. It's an "image" that all to many would prefer to forget. On the flip side, conservative D's see Obama as far too liberal and worry about our security, hence they would vote for McCain because they see him as being more like Hillary.

I think that Obama would be able to put the fears of many of the conservatives at ease with a breakdown of his incoming administration. Many of the public Obama backers are moderate to conservative. Obama's message is really a conservative message. Individual action and responsibility lead to progress. Sure, he's not going to get the evangelical voters, but do we want a Democrat who would? The last one who did was Carter. A great man to be sure, but a poor president.

The people he selects to be on his team would be crucial to abating those fears. If he selects the right personel,he might be able to pull it off.I don't agree with Obama's message as conservative anymore than Bill Clinton's message was conservative but I believe Bill was more conservative than Obama. That said..people often change when they win the so called prize and become POTUS.They often do not have the votes to carry out their agenda.

No but he will get the Liberation Theology crowd's votes! As you may know by reading some of my posts,I don't like it when "any" candidate mixes religion and politics but I do like candidates who believe in a higher power and they are not ashamed of their faith! I voted for Carter and he was indeed a great man but a very poor president. In closing..the greatest enemy of a legislator who seeks the presidency is their voting record and Obama's record is indisputably liberal. I have no doubt that this will become painfully clear and soon!
