Photograph of Bill Clinton and Rev. Wright Surfaces

Quote:
During one of the most difficult periods in the presidency of Bill Clinton, he addressed a group of clerics at an annual prayer breakfast in September 1998 just as the Starr report outlining his dalliance with Monica Lewinsky was about to be published.

Among those in attendance, was the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., who is seen shaking hands with Mr. Clinton in a photograph provided today by the Obama campaign. Mr. Wright’s relationship with Senator Barack Obama, as his longtime pastor, has been the subject of considerable controversy in recent days because of incendiary excerpts of sermons Mr. Wright gave at their church, Trinity United Church of Christ, in Chicago.

In providing the photograph to The New York Times, the Obama campaign appeared to be trying to divert some attention to the Clintons after a week in which Mr. Obama’s relationship with Mr. Wright has left him facing one of the biggest challenges of his campaign. There is nothing in the picture or the note that addresses whether Mr. Clinton had met Mr. Wright prior to the White House meeting or whether he or Mrs. Clinton knew anything about Mr. Wright’s views.

Asked for a response tonight through email, Howard Wolfson, a top aide to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, wrote, “Urgent indeed — a picture — oooooooo!”
I gotta agree with Wolfson here...

I'm having trouble figuring out the reasoning Obama's campaign would release this...Just comes across as cheap...

First, this keeps Wright in the headlines, which is something you'd think Obama would NOT want...

Second, some are going to construe this as "Clinton met with this a-hole, too, but for just one day while Obama had a 20 year releationship" making this picture backfire...

It would only matter, if Bill were running for pres... he isn't...

either way it is stupid for them to do this.

Obama's camp has made a calculated and "risky" move here. They are trying to shore up support from within the Democratic party by showing that even their icon Bill Clinton knows Wright. Obviously, they are not attempting to win over Republican voters. Now here's the downside of this strategy,it keeps Wright in the news and it may further alienate Independent voters.

Well they should have chosen a photo where Bill wasn't ogling some babe across the room and totally ignoring the old guy next to him.

Caption contest anyone?

I haven't finished reading the rest of the posts on here, so someone may have pointed this out already:
In a general election-
Obama= overwhelming black voter turn out
Richardson campaigning for Obama or possibly a vice presidential nominee= overwhelming Hispanic voter turn out
couple that with people who will just always vote Democrat and those whites , Asians and others who like these candidates for issues reasons---->
Who needs to win over Republicans?

I think I'm hearing an echo,Did I not say "Obviously, they are not attempting to win over Republican voters."..

According to Hispanic political pundits,Richardson support of Obama will not "guarantee" overwhelming Hispanic turnout and support for Obama.Yep,for now,Obama is the front runner but he has not yet convinced me to vote for him.Once I settle in on a candidate,I will follow through with my support no matter what happens. That's why I often wait till the last minute to support any candidate..

The "party" a candidate belongs to means little or nothing to me.
