Default Obama: Fire Imus

I think it's time for a refresher course in history...Specifically April 11, 2007...

Obama: Fire Imus

Quote:
In an interview with ABC News Wednesday afternoon, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., called for the firing of talk radio host Don Imus. Obama said he would never again appear on Imus' show, which is broadcast on CBS Radio and MSNBC television.

"I understand MSNBC has suspended Mr. Imus," Obama told ABC News, "but I would also say that there's nobody on my staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anybody of any ethnic group. And I would hope that NBC ends up having that same attitude."

Obama said he appeared once on Imus' show two years ago, and "I have no intention of returning."

Racial Slur Stirs Trouble for Shock Jock

Last week, Imus referred to the Rutgers University women's basketball team, most of whom are African-American, as "nappy-headed hos." He has since apologized for his remarks, and CBS and MSNBC suspended his show for two weeks.

"He didn't just cross the line," Obama said. "He fed into some of the worst stereotypes that my two young daughters are having to deal with today in America. The notions that as young African-American women -- who I hope will be athletes -- that that somehow makes them less beautiful or less important. It was a degrading comment. It's one that I'm not interested in supporting."

Though every major presidential candidate has decried the racist remarks, Obama is the first one to say Imus should lose his job for them.
That must've been a different Barack Obama...

Can you give a reference to an article that shows him having a different opinion that shows that he's being hypocritical in contrast to the article you already posted?

Ummm...

Have you missed the news for the last week?...

It wasn't until it was politically disadvantageous did he stop praising his "spiritual mentor" and started condemning him...

Um, he doesn't want Wright on his campaign. How is this hypocritical?

You better stop pointing out the obvious right now.

Probably the fact that this man was on his campaign in the first place. He should have known better.
Hypocritical, dumb, ignorant. They all work.

Let me ask you ALL something? Hhmm?
I've been researching some of the Rev's sermons and going back and forth to my bible and some pretty fiery Quaker sermons of the last two centuries.
Trying to figure out how I feel about the remarks (GD America).
And taken in the context inwhich it was presented, I don't see that 2003 sermon as any more than a fullfilled prophecy type evangelical speech. Much like many abortion sermons that called down the wrath a few years ago.
But the question I want to pose to each of you reading this concerns Reverand White's over all "anti-white" (if you'll pardon the phrase) stance.
Here's the question.
How should an underdog act?
Answer, please.
It's not an accusation. Just an observation that American blacks are an underclass in our society with many steriotypes still in force. I don't treat black/spanish/caucasion/oriental any differently than anyone else. But there have been instances in my experience when they (blacks) have recieved a comment wrongly. And I have often thought that comment over and then tried to put my self in their shoes (tried) and realized how differently some casual pun must have been recieved.
Just how should we treat each other anyhow? Like the big fat brother and the little skinny brother. When the fat one looks the other way the skinny one steals his bread? Or the fat one tries to look at all skinny people as he does fat people. Then his fat friends are disgusted with him and won't play with him anymore?
Think about it more deeply than you are now. Dig beneath the politics. While you're at it think about a Palestinian raised on a piece of land your father cleared that you're ordered to move off of. There's a treaty. And now the world loves the Jew and hates you you dirty Palestinian. What do you do?
I try to wrap myself around this problem and I come up more tangled every time.
What to do with an abused child? Even after you have seen you were abusing him and started trying to give him the toys the other children have. He still bears the scars of that former abuse. They will manifest themselves somehow. What do you do?
