Default Romney Campaign Memo: The Koch Brothers Are The ‘Financial Engine Of The Tea Party’

Quote:
Tomorrow, billionaire David Koch and presidential candidate Mitt Romney are set to speak at the a Tea Party conference financed by the same Koch brother’s fortune. The Defending the Dream Summit, a conference funded by Koch and sponsored by his Americans for Prosperity group, is a yearly event where Republican politicians come to praise the Koch brothers and their political network. For instance, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), as he was seeking the Republican nomination, paid tribute to the Koch’s political network at the same event in 2007.
Meanwhile, the Washington Examiner, which happens to be owned by an allied billionaire named Phil Anschutz, obtained a Romney campaign memo that details its outreach effort to the Koch brothers and the Tea Party. The memo acknowledges what ThinkProgress has reported for two years now — that the Kochs are the “financial engine of the Tea Party,” as the memo put it. Moreover, the memo expands on Romney’s courtship of the billionaire petrochemical brothers, including a meeting in January at an elite social club in Manhattan and an August meeting that had to be canceled because of Hurricane Irene:

Americans for Prosperity is led by billionaire Republican donor David Koch, whose endorsement Romney seeks. An Oct. 4 internal Romney campaign memo obtained by The Washington Examiner describes Koch as the “financial engine of the Tea Party” even though Koch “denies being directly involved.” Koch endorsed Romney for president in 2008 and his well-funded group is credited with electing dozens of Republicans to Congress in 2010 and creating a network of Tea Party loyalists who are critical to Romney’s chances of winning the nomination, political strategists say. [...]
Tea Party Billionaire David Koch Hosted One Of Mitt Romney's First Fundraisers For 2012 Campaign | ThinkProgress
The memo says Romney was scheduled to meet with David Koch on August 28 at the billionaire’s home in Southampton, N.Y. — where Koch held a major event for Romney in 2010 — but Hurricane Irene foiled their plans. The two last met in January for lunch in Manhattan at the Links Club, an elite social club for avid golfers.

Indeed, not only did Koch endorse Romney in 2008, but one of Romney’s first major campaign fundraisers for the 2012 cycle was hosted at Koch’s mansion in the Hamptons last year.
I'm torn between saying "Well I'll be dipped" and "Who knew?!"

That's a pretty well-established fact, isn't it?

It is now.
Though some would be in denial.
Wonder how the Romney campaign will spin this...

it really doesnt matter does it? the money is gonna come from somewhere. wether its democrats or republicans big monied donors are always lining up so as to make sure their interests are represented.

Thats part of the problem today. The wealthy have much more influence over government than the poor who can't donate huge sums of money to candidates to ensure their voices are heard.

Exactly and many on both sides are quietly cheering the SC decision that made a corp a citizen. Chip in the already flawed finance reform.

I'd like to see the internal memo rather than rely on the credibility of the Washington Examiner.

As A Teapartier, I had never heard of the Koch Brothers. I don't know of anyone who recognized that name or received any money. It would be nice if someone fronted the money for much of the fees and permits and hoops that tea partiers had to secure that the occupiers don't.

As for Romney and Koch. That says to me that The Koch Brothers as well as Mitt Romney are Republican party line folk...and that will not sit well with tea partiers when the voting starts.

but it occurs to me....isn't the tea party dead? Why are we even talking about it. I thought there was SO much evidence prior to Mr. Romney running for president that gave proof that the tea party was bankrolled by the Koch Brothers.
Who is bankrolling and supporting the rampaging rioting marxist occupiers? Since they're so popular and receive so much support from democrat politicians and our president, shouldn't we really be talking the occupiers up?

Here's a picture of what Men's Warehouse got for voicing their support of the Occupiers.

What exactly is it that you're seeing?

Quote:
Occupy Oakland has called for a city-wide strike and rally on Wednesday to protest income inequality, and several businesses, including Men's Wearhouse and the Grand Lake movie theater, have closed their doors in support.

THIS is what you're seeing...(Well, SOME OF US are seeing it...some choose to be blind)...

So we have companys that are SUPPORTING the movement and STILL getting vandalized...

In other words, this Occupy movement doesn't really give a **** whether or not a company is on their side...They hate companies period, and they will be punished even if you attempt to befriend them (sincerely or otherwise)...

BTW - Notice how this media outlet (SFGate) chooses the words "mostly peaceful"?...They are ALL in cahoots with this crap...

I would not necessarily call the Koch brothers a "financial engine for the Tea Party."

While FreedomWorks and Americans for Prosperity have donated and supported them to a degree, I hardly think they are some financial engine for the group.

They are no different than hundreds and thousands of other rich entities who sling their money around in the name of politics.

Koch Industries have many interests. The Tea Party is just one of them.

You don't have to. The memo does.
