here's a problem with Cain...
Quote:
Bank bailouts
Cain supported the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) bank bailouts as a way to save the economy, viewing it as an investment opportunity for the taxpayers. In a 2008 editorial, Cain wrote, "Owning a part of the major banks in America is not a bad thing. We could make a profit while solving a problem.".[40] In May 2011, regarding his TARP support, Cain said "I don’t have any regrets".... "I studied the situation. I didn’t have trouble with the idea; I had trouble with its implementation, picking winners and losers."[41]

he also favors the fair tax & doesn't believe the federal reserves needs to be audited...
I haven't been convinced of the fair tax & the fed thing isn't high on my priority list but it probably should be audited.
in the meantime...former governors Jon Huntsman & Gary Johnson have clear records of political leadership (one of the things I liked about Daniels even though I may not have agreed on every little issue).
I already posted some stuff about Huntsman...now here's a little about Johnson...
Quote:
He slashed the size of state government during his term and left the state with a large budget surplus."[36] According to one New Mexico paper, "Johnson left the state fiscally solid," and was "arguably the most popular governor of the decade . . . leaving the state with a $1 billion budget surplus."[37] The Washington Times has reported that when Johnson left office, "the size of state government had been substantially reduced and New Mexico was enjoying a large budget surplus."[24]

Johnson is in favor of simplifying and reducing taxes.[58] During his governorship, Johnson didn't increase taxes once and cut them fourteen times.[59] Due to his stance on taxes, David Weigel described him as "the original Tea Party candidate".[60]
Johnson supports balancing the federal budget immediately.[61]

this is not to say I agree with him on everything but on the majority I do...
there's something to like & dislike about every candidate
the trick is to figure out what positions can a candidate actually deliver on & which things are dead on arrival or which positions would likely change once in the position of POTUS as we've seen no new taxes become new taxes & the closing of gitmo not happen or opposition to nation building become in favor of nation building in two different & consecutive presidencies thus far & on down the line
I believe the next president will be someone with a record to run on or from...which means either Obama will be re-elected or a republican governor will be the next POTUS...I'm hoping for a republican governor with a good track record of conservative leadership & results

now I understand these are just wikipedia pages & aren't the gospel but it's a good start for getting to know a candidate
when it gets closer the website
www.ontheissues.org is a great place to learn about a candidate...
