Romney hopes home field will produce first big win

CNN) -- Having settled for second place in Iowa and New Hampshire, Republican Mitt Romney is hoping Michigan primary voters give him his first major victory as they head to the polls Tuesday.

According to recent polls of the state's Republican primary voters, Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, has a narrow lead over Arizona Sen. John McCain.

While Romney won the much-overlooked Wyoming caucuses January 5, some political analysts have said Michigan is a must-win for Romney, whose father was governor of the state in the 1960s.

"This is a big day. ... This is the day that is going to change, I believe, the politics in the nation as we get ready to select our nominee," Romney told supporters during a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Tuesday. "I think Michigan is going to vote for Romney again. I am planning on it."

While Romney said the state was "not do or die," the Michigan native said he "would like to see Michigan in the win column."

Romney's Michigan win shakes up GOP race

Update

(CNN) -- Mitt Romney claimed a much-needed victory in Tuesday's Michigan Republican primary, making the race for the GOP presidential nomination anybody's game.

"Tonight marks the beginning of a comeback --- a comeback for America," the former Massachusetts governor said.

"Let's take this campaign to South Carolina and Nevada and Florida and all over the country. Let's take it all the way to the White House," he said to a cheering crowd.

Some political analysts said Michigan was a must-win for Romney, who finished second in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Romney, who won the overshadowed Wyoming caucuses, is a Michigan native and his father was governor of the state in the 1960s.

Forty-one percent of people who voted in the GOP primary said Romney's Michigan ties were important to them, according to exit polls.

Romney bribed the state of Michigan. There is no way this can seriously be taken as meaning anything. He suggested a $20 billion annual subsidy to the primary dying industry in Michigan the day before the election. He was buying votes with the promise of your money. $20 billion a year to a state of 10 million to invest in a dying industry that absolutely no one concerned with our economic wellbeing suggests we invest in at all (let alone at $20 billion a year). It's pure and simple bribery. This is the type of shit you see in elections in like Congo, it's fucking disgusting that we're allowing this shit to slide here. Typically only third world nations allow themselves to participate in the political business cycle. We're at 6% inflation as is, and Mitt Romney has showed he's willing to throw massive amounts of money at things with only marginal responses (i.e. 2nd in Iowa and New Hampshire), I don't see any reason to expect him to not drop the 20 g's or g's or g's a year on an industry from which we'd still see no results (as you're just undermining the market).

Romney's a fucking joke and the mainstream media want to let him keep going because they know that Charles Manson is more likely to win a general election.
