Pick your own source:

I know nothing of the AEI. Picked that link due to it being near the top of the list and having comparative figures. The figures seem pretty much in line with other sources. Other sources including HuffPo.

I'm guessing you won't be in the mood.

Al Franken also wants to send his kids to the best school he can afford.

One problem I have is grouping public vs private. There are plenty of extemporary public school systems out there. For example the one I went to:

HPISD

Highland Park High School is ranked 26th within Texas. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® course work and exams. The AP® participation rate at Highland Park High School is 88 percent. The student body makeup is 49 percent male and 51 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 10 percent. Highland Park High School is the only high school in the Highland Park Independent School District.

Texas High Schools
badge #223 in
STEM High Schools

Graduation Rate 98%

College Readiness (district average) 76.4
Proficient in English (district average) 94%
Proficient in Mathematics (district average) 74%

This is a public school system. Something a binary argument btwn public vs private does not factor in.

Great for you but,,,; there is a dearth of bad schools in the inner cities who have no motivation to improve. Nor does the Government even try.

One would think with all the promises made by political candidates, this would change.

We spend more per student than any other nation in the world. And while there are exceptional students coming out of exceptional public schools, there are some in which the word "Deplorable" would be an upgrade.

In truth every kid should have the right, and the ability, to go to whatever public school his parents could afford in time and money. Our kids, all of them, deserve and even chance. That will not come by an efficient school funding system but and effective one. And if your child's school is deplorable, that school should be motivated to improve or lose the income provided by your child's attendance.

Whether you believe private schools are a good alternative or not, for most inner city kids, there is absolutely no good choices. Why not change that?

It works in the supermarket, the auto industry, even appliances. Make crap and the customer goes elsewhere. Or we can go Soviet style and make kids devour the crappy sausage because that is what the state says is "adequate."

Really seriously you need to think things through before you start typing sometimes.

This is such a dumb argument.

Being opposed to governmental "school vouchers" is not the same thing as being opposed to private schools.
Way to look at an apple and declare "BUT ORANGE!"

I'm opposed to paying property taxes to public schools when I don't have any kids going to school. But that's a different story.
