Default Principal cancels Honors Night in exchange for all-inclusive assembly

Brought to you by the same type of complete morons who don't keep score in Little League for fear a kid might understand failure...

A night to congratulate honor students can be "devastating" to non-honor students...

Principal cancels Honors Night in exchange for all-inclusive assembly

Quote:
An Ipswich principal is in hot water with some parents after he reportedly canceled the middle school's Honors Night.

David Fabrizio, principal of Ipswich Middle School, notified parents of his plan to eliminate the school's Honors Night last week.

"The Honors Night, which can be a great sense of pride for the recipients' families, can also be devastating to a child who has worked extremely hard in a difficult class but who, despite growth, has not been able to maintain a high grade point average," Fabrizio penned in his first letter to parents.

Fabrizio also said he decided to make the change because academic success can be influenced by the amount of support a student receives at home and not all students receive the same level of emotional and academic support at home.

Parents say they feel he is bringing down the education system; however, Fabrizio says he plans to include the honors ceremony with a previously planned end of the year assembly where students will be recognized in front of the entire student body.

In a follow-up letter, Fabrizio attempted to explain that he has "no intention of bringing down American education."

In fact, Fabrizio, coming from a coaching background, believes competitive environments are healthy and necessary, but he feels everyone should be included.

Life is not the way some try to depict it. When these kids get out in the real world they won't know what hit em. I also think they aren't giving the kids credit for knowing their own limitations and pushing to work around them or go another path.

And how, exactly would this not be devastating to the honor students?

It doesn't feel very good when a person works their butt off for the whole yearand then find out that your work won't be acknowledged.

Good job, you worked hard! You took the time to study, you applied yourself well, you did a great job! But...well...we don't want to offend so, no reward for you.

Look, I know it sucks to work your ass off and still not make honor roll but regardless, why should those who did achieve their goals be punished?

Okay wait... this makes no sense.

He canceled 'honors night' because it wasn't inclusive. Because all the kids who didn't make honors wouldn't be invited and they might get their wittle feewings hurted and god knows we can't EVER allow anyone to ever get their wittle feewings hurted.

But then, he decided to include the same ceremony during an all inclusive event so all the kids who didn't make honors can watch the honors kids get their awards and thereby have their noses rubbed into the fact that they didn't make honors themselves.

In what world does this make sense?

We have awards assemblies and everyone goes. Every single kid.

It is sad for some children because their parents aren't attending enough to them that would allow them to compete for honors.

Our Honors are during full school assemblies... we honor success in sport and academics. All students watch. Many parents and even some local business people and officials (Mayor, Representative to Parliament, Etc) show up.
