Yeah, the principal should have to watch every season and episode of 'Jersey Shore' or something for this.

She completed the requirements and fulfilled her obligations, so she should receive her diploma.
If the rule was that she could say whatever she wanted in the valedictory address, you might have a point. The high school has rules of conduct the students must conform to so they can graduate as well as academic requirements that includes the valedictorian.

Then there's a different standard for getting a diploma for valedictorians vs. everyone else?? THAT'S the issue here. She did everything she was supposed to do to get her diploma and the school is witholding her diploma and that's WRONG. If every student had to give a speech at graduation and conform to the school's standards for that speech as part of thier graduation requirements, you might have a point. But this was a standard applied to ONE person.

It would be unusual if the valedictory address was compulsory. If she had declined tbe next student in line would have taken her place and been subject to the same rules. There is only one valedictorian and so by definition any rules pertaining to the speech apply to one person.

If the student did in fact just get carried away, what is the problem with writing an apology? It seems her father is teaching her the same destructive lesson that so many practice today, entitlement without responsibility.

She didn't do anything wrong, she shouldn't need to apologize to people who choose to be offended over a completely benign word. It's not her fault they're ****tards, why should she apologize for their delicate sensibilities?

Further, giving the address was not part of her diploma requirements. She satisfied those requirements PRIOR TO giving the address. I hope she sues the school and wins enough money to have her secondary education paid for and then some.

And the school administration would object to the word "quivering"...

Give the principal a heart attack that's what you want.
