Minimum wage is by definition poverty

Raising it again to $15.00 per hour, will not change that.
I beg to differ. When all I earned was 230 or thereabouts an hour I saved for a car and could work a part time added job to save-or spend-even more money.
now for 8 or 10 an hour you work all the hrs you can to survive . no hrs left and head constantly bobbing in the water

if they went to college yet are only making 17 an hour they must have a general studies diploma

Wrong. As a LVN graduating from a technical school I started out at 11.50 per hour. An LVN is a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN in most states).

I graduated in 2002. A newly licensed LVN here in south Texas starts out at approximately 16 or 17 dollars per hour.

It takes intelligence to make a good argument. You failed on both counts.

At 16, I picked tomatoes and beans for $.35 an hour. I lived with my parents so I had money for an old car and some left over for girl friends.
Still, I was financially poor.

When I made $2.35 and hour I had a car, an apartment, a child and a wife. My life was rich, but I was still poor.

So, what's your point?

False.

What does your physical labor and sweat cost you?

What does a trip to the library cost you?

What do the training programs offered by the State Unemployment/disability offices cost you?

Are you even aware that some Community colleges/State colleges allow non-paying residents to audit some classes free of charge?

While they do cost something, adult education classes can teach the basics of subjects that can provide a springboard to further one's career?

Used college books at second hand stores or libraries... group mentoring services... H&R Block at tax time....

It's narrow thinking such as your statement, is the reason some people throw up their hands and give up. Which means, you are actually part of the problem, thinking that if the solution isn't handed to them on a silver platter, that there is no solution.

Look beyond your box. There is a great big world out there, waiting for inquisitive minds.....

Raising the minimum wage by dictate doesn't raise people out of poverty automatically. As the city of Seattle found when they decreed fast food workers must be paid $15 per hour only to have some workers request fewer hours to preserve their welfare benefits the simplistic sloganeering of Progressives doesn't work in the real world.

Less than 5% of the workers who begin a minimum wage job are still making minimum wage after 1 year. But who cares if the facts don't support the class warfare notion of rich business owners keeping employees as serfs, it sounds good as a campaign talking point. Who cares if the Trump economy has produced organic wage growth not seen in a decade and the growth is disproportionately in the low wage jobs, with a magic stroke of a pen politicians many of whom have never signed the front of a paycheck will make it right.

Is it something like, wages go up, taxes increase, prices of items increase, everything stays the same? Sort of like everybody winning "first" place?

True. But this method of lifting all out of poverty will put our nation in "last" place

Exactly. Simply raising the FMW by decree does nothing but increase inflation as it devalues the dollar relative to goods and services. If something that cost $8 today costs $15 tomorrow without any added benefits, that just means that your dollar bought a little more than 1/2 today what it bought yesterday. It didn't increase the value of the commodity only cheapened the money used to purchase it.

But to those on the left that are not capable of logical thought, this is a panacea as it only takes a few votes to accomplish instead of actual hard work and perseverance. And the politicians peddling this crap understand that this is bad for the economy but that their constituents will buy into it and vote for them. It really is sickening that our politicians would sell out the country for a vote, but that is the way it is these days.
