Dow drops more than 250 points, continuing this month's slide on trade war fears.

Stocks fell sharply on Thursday as investors started to fear the U.S.-China trade war is slowing the economy.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 286.14 points to 25,490.47 as United Technologies lagged. The S&P 500 fell 1.2% to 2,822.24 while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.6% to 7,628.28. The Dow fell more than 400 points at its lows, but regained some of its losses in the final hour of trading as Intel shares turned around to close 1.2% higher.

The Dow is now down more than 380 points in two days as Wall Street begins to realize the trade war may last a lot longer than previously expected. Bond yields and crude oil also plunged on Thursday as the rising risk spread through other markets. The 10-year yield fell to its lowest since October 2017. The S&P 500 is down more than 4% so far in May along with the Dow.

“The trade landscape looks bleaker than ever,” said Adam Crisafulli, executive director at J.P. Morgan, in a note. “Anyone bullish on the SPX has to be conducting a lot of soul searching at the moment.”

Crisafulli also pointed out that data from around the world is indicating an economic rebound from earlier this year is “showing signs of attenuating” while the Federal Reserve is in no hurry to cut rates.
been falling and all it will take is another housing boom-bust to put us in the lurch. ANd believe me they are working on it; I heard blurb from a GOP congressional committee member when he was bolstering Manuchin and urging him to get rid of even more banking regs.

Stock Market News For Dec 31, 2018

Quote:
Markets closed mostly lower on Friday in a week that saw wild swings between gains and losses. However, all major indexes posted their weekly gains for the first time in a month that has been plagued by volatility. Friday’s decline follows a stunning reversal on Thursday when major indexes bounced back to end in positive territory from their session lows. On Friday, the Dow and S&P 500 closed slightly lower, while the Nasdaq ended marginally higher.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) declined 0.3% to close at 23,062.40.
So the stock market STARTED 2019 at 23,062.40...

At the close of business on May 23, 2019, the stock market is at 25,490.47..

My trusty calculator tells me that the stock market is UP this year by 2428.07. That's an increase of 9.5% on the year!!!!!...And we're not even at the halfway point yet!!!!...

But "Orangeman bad", so everything's a negative...

Under the orange man, when the stock market is up, progressives claim it is not an indicator of a good economy cause the little guy is not affected. But when the Stock Market declines, even for a day, the economy is going to hell.

In truth, Wall Street is nothing more than an indicator of investor enthusiasm.

The biggest problem is that the MSM has decided to help China instead of America. Instead of highlighting American companies, to get Americans to help America, by buying American products, all the media does is reports false narratives about how bad things are in America because of the trade war.

When they go out everyday and say how much this and that will cost, they help China. China doesn't care how much their people suffer, so they know that all they have to do is wait for the Democrats to help them win by telling America and the world that America is suffering.

Salty, I will bet that the trade war has not even touched you, or anyone you know. I do not know ANYONE that is suffering one iota from the tariffs.

But If I was anti American and wanted China to win, I would start threads like this, and pretend people in America were suffering.

Indeed, Walmart is condemned for wiping out mainstreet with cheap Chinese goods sold at predatory prices but when Trump tackles the problem of trade imbalances with China due to their government's abusive policies coupled with the flaccid reaction of organizations like the WTO, it's Trum who is the villian.

The Chinese have the second largest economy in the world but the WTO continues to classify it as emerging allowing the Chinese government to impose protectionist tariffs. The Chinese government insists foreign companies take on a Chinese partner and share proprietary information as a condition of doing business in China. Not surprising the Chinese then use the information and expertise stolen from foreign countries to create wholly Chinese owned competitors. But hey Orange man bad.

And unfortunately, those on the left with their excessive hatred of Trump, will ignore those facts and do everything they can to stop Trump and his policies no matter how badly it effects the United States and our economy. It is sad that they live such miserable existences that they have to cheer for other countries to try to knock down the sitting President.
