Default INSTANT BOOM: American Businesses Announce Major Bonuses For Employees Because Of Tru

Oh look, greedy corporations are hoarding the benefits of tax reform.

Quote:
Seven American businesses announced on Wednesday that they would both be investing hundreds of millions of dollars in their employees because of the Republican tax reform bill that the Senate passed on Tuesday night.

Oh wait, corporations are giving bonuses to non executive employees, raising their minimum pay rates, boosting charitable giving and promising major new capital investments because of tax reform.

The voluntary increases in wages must be particularly galling to partisan Democrats who claimed only government regulation could accomplish this.

B- B-But were not we told that these major corporations and companies would keep the savings to enrich themselves?

WTF? Can we not trust the warnings from elitist liberals?

Btw, I wrapped our company Christmas presents over two weeks ago. The usual $ 25.00 Item( a blanket, Crock pot, or some useful generic product). But this year we added a $100.00 bill.

And everyone got a nice raise.

Wells Fargo is wishy washy when it comes to why the raises are happening.

Wells Fargo says raises were not linked to tax bill passage ? then backtracks - LA Times

AT&T's bonus to its employees came from a union agreement to get workers to share in the tax cut, not simply out of some sudden inspiration of generosity.

My guess is if we dig deep enough we'll find that many of the companies that are doing something other than stock buybacks are doing so in order to piggyback off of the tax cut, and trying to get a little good PR.

So, after warning us that the corporations would pocket the money you now say they were actually motivated to take care of their employees?

Seriously?

Most of our clients are fortune 500 companies. This subject has been in our discussions with several of their employees (purchasing agents) about contingency plans for next year. Based on sales projections rooted in the now booming economy we calculated what was needed to keep our staff (wage competition in a state with 3.3% un-employment is fierce) and what was possible with the higher sales levels.

So when the tax bill was published we could forecast. Whilst we had already placed an extra cash bonus in their Christmas packages, we made our announcement of raises the day after the tax bill passed the Senate.

Thanks to a healthy year 2017, we have also made some capital investment plans to handle a larger business volume in 2018. We will also be looking for a new technician to accommodate the added business level. On pause for the last two/three months, everything now gets a green light.

Today we found out our largest client is anticipating double the volume we did in 2017. That's a whole new packaging line. So I will be bringing a machine out of Mothballs and re-designing it for their unique product.

A lot of work but I'm only 70 years young. The downside is I expect to be exhausted by May 2018. But at least I can now afford a new paint job on my trusty '95 Dodge truck.

Yeah, this is gonna be awful. We feel so cheated and abused by the new administration..

And Salty, I believe that what you think you know about the real world, what actually went on in the board rooms across America this fall, is considerably lacking.

Wrong on your part.
AT&T only announced the new bonus after the tax bill was approved. It was not figured in advance.

I actually have mixed feelings about AT&T giving $200 million in unplanned bonuses. I'm glad for the employees but I'm a shareholder that didn't have input on that decision. AT&T also announced an increase in their dividend to their shareholders so I'll get more than $1,000 from that decision. Mixed feelings but still a win for all of us.

announcing and figuring a budget are two different things. one of these cos as wally said ghad already negotiated w the union what bonuses would be. another gave this as a grease mechanism when allowed to step further into a monopoly by this administration.
even if the tax law does help it wouldn't be seen till months or even a year from now.
and the downside will be seen after midterms.

From the Wells Fargo article.

Quote:
Arati Sontakay Randolph, a Wells Fargo senior vice president, said that Gilchrist had misspoken Wednesday.

"Our spokesperson made a mistake, and we apologize for this," she said Thursday. "Our announcement was directly related to the passage of tax reform.
So, the senior VP corrects the mistake of the spokesperson but the fake news media reports the correction as back tracking, a distortion to allow the to attack tax reform.

The AT&T article supposedly showing the bonuses were due to an agreement with the union rather than the tax reform law.

Quote:
The union sent a letter to AT&T last month asking it to guarantee workers would receive the $4,000 raise that White House economists said would be the result of the corporate tax cuts. Few mainstream economists believe the $1.5 trillion tax cut will lead to annual wage gains of that magnitude.

AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson said in a phone call with the head of the union that company couldn't do the $4,000 raise but was considering a $1,000 bonus to union and non-union employees, company spokesman Larry Solomon said.
AT&T was already considering a $1,000 bonus for line workers if the tax reform passed when the union head contacted the CEO. But hey, don't look at that bonus check, attack evil businesses.
