That does't sound fair at all.

I thought that was common practice.

Published on the Federal Register on Tuesday, the new rule would rescind a regulation enacted during the Obama administration that mandates employers distribute tips to their tipped employees. Under the new rule, restaurants would be able to pool tips from servers and share them with untipped employees like dishwashers.
First, a bar I go to has been doing this for years...I doubt they even knew the rule was changed...

Second, notice the bolded part...

The current rule is only a few years old...2011...There's nothing groundbreaking here...We're just gonna go back to pre-2011 rules...

It's anger at stuff like this that fortifies the deity that is Obama...Everything was doom and gloom and cloudy, rainy days until Obama showed up and changed rules; then the sun shown gloriously upon the unwashed masses...

...and if anyone DARES change anything AAAAAAAALLLLL THE WAY BACK to pre-Obama days, then they MUST be ebil and wishing death to all...

what? giving all your tips to people who didn't earn them? they take part of tips and figure it as your wage. you have to pay taxes on it whether or not you make that much or not. supposedly a low till triggers an increase in what the employer pays you but they rarely ever pay that. these people literally work for tips.

its been standard practice to not share tips. perhaps some employers were taking advantage so obama made sure that wouldn't happen. this law will open the door for all restaurant owners to let the customers pay his employees' wages.

It certainly didn't say "giving all your tips". Overreact much?

No, actually they work for a wage plus tips. In fact, if you had actually read the very first line of the article it clearly states that this would only apply to wait staff "as long as they earn at least minimum wage". See, it mentions "wage". So let's not get melodramatic about it.

It is at any restaurant that has a host/hostess and busboy/busgirl. Maybe not common practice at BillyBobs diner where there is no such thing as a host/hostess or busboy/busgirl so the waiter/waitress does it all.

in the southern states and here in idaho they pay no waiter minimum wage but figure it with how many tips he/she makes. they pay 2 or 3 dollars an hour, assume you pull in the rest. you pay tax on minimum wage whether you clear it or not and tax on your tips.

so follow the money. the only reason to do this is so customers end up paying a good part of your employee salary not just half the waitress's which is ridiculous too.

usually each waiter in a restaurant pays the bus boy a percentage out of courtesy and it makes for a more attentive table cleaner.
